Pipeline Modeling

Hello all,
I hope everyone will be fine. Guys I am modeling a pipeline in opensees based on BEam On Non-Linear Winkler Foundation(BNWF).I have a question that
HOW transverse wave propagation speed help me decide the minimum element length??? And what would be the criteria to select the appropriate mesh size???
Please guide me with this. I need your help guys.Looking for your response.
