Modicon 612/512

I have recently taken over the maintenance of a system that has four old Modicon 612 or 512 micro PLC's. I am using ProWorx 32. I have been able to write some changes to the PLC's, but what I can't do is monitor what the logic is doing in run mode. If I could just monitor the status of a few addresses at a time it would help. Does anyone have any experience with these?

PACSystems Rx3i PLCs Global Communication Fault

Hi there,

Here ins Ok Tedi Mining Limited

We have 4X Rx3i PLCs that talk to each other using Ethernet Global Data (EDG) Exchange

At the moment we a facing the issue of Global Communication(EDG) Failure

What the are the cause of this fault and where should I look at-PLC hardware or fiber optic cable?

Appreciate your assistance

Thanks

Ladder Logic Design

I am trying to design the ladder logic for an energy saving system with the following characteristics...

Whenever a person enters the room, they pass by sensor (IN_1), and light (OUT_1) in the lobby are turned on for 2 minutes, and then turn off automatically.

If a person exits, they pass sensor (IN_2), which turns on light (OUT_2) - which remains on for 1 minute and then turns off automatically.

When there is between 10 and 20 people in the room, one air conditioning unit is turned on (OUT_3), if more than 20 people are in the room 2 air conditioners turn on (OUT_3 and OUT_4).

(OUT_4) will turn back off when the room has less than 20 people, but (OUT_3) will remain on until there are no more people in the room.

I fell like I know how to design the majority of this system, but I am confused on how to keep OUT_3 on when there are less than 10 people in the room, as I figured I would use a Limit instruction to turn it on when 10-20 people were in the room. Could anyone suggest any solutions to this?

Thanks

Combined HMI-PLC experience.

I am looking into updating the control panels we use for our OEM Mixing systems.
We currently have panels made up of push buttons, relays several red-lion process controllers and VFD.
There seems to be a variety of HMI / PLC combo units capable of multiple I/O and analog inputs.

Does anyone have experience with any of these units. I would like to keep cost down but not sacrifice maintainability by plant maintenance resources.
Like to stay away from obscure and proprietary software etc.

Simple Linear actuator control

I have an application to move a platform 0 to 7 inches (+/- .25inches) weight 50lbs (platform 15 inch x 24 inch) using a linear actuator.

System requirements:
1) Simple hand held interface to enter the value for Actuator to move platform.
2)Actuator shall move platform after enter button is pressed on display, the move shall always be a absolute move. Steps 1 & 2 can be repeated as many times as required to move platform to desired position. Position
shall be maintained after move is complete.
3)Available power is 120 vac single phase @ 7amps or less, plug into wall outlet.
4)The system shall be portable able to be picked up and hand carried to new location.

Is there manufacturer or build kits on the market that offers what is described above for control. Need to keep it inexpensive and simple, can design mechanics to meet actuator and held interface requirements.

BACnet object viewing

Hi,

I've ran into an issue with a Daikin series of Bacnet IP Controller that is a using an object, Multistate input, with states 1-512. Unfortunately the object viewer that is proprietary to my company is currently incompatible with reading this number of states.

It appears that similarly several other object viewers I've looked into have the same issue, such as BOSS explorer and cimetrics BACnet explorer.

Has anyone come across multi-state values that have this many states and if so what viewer/explorer/scanner are you using to see these values?

Need Help! Modicon M340 w/Unity Pro XL v10 2

I am trying to convert an Allen Bradley RSL5k program and am stuck on an addressing issue. In AB I have a UDT with a DINT member. I step through the bits of the DINT programatically with the following code

UDT_NAME.MemberDINT.[StepVar] and then I simply cycle through the applicable bits of the DINT by incrementing StepVar.

I need to do the same thing in Unity Pro, but cannot figure out how. Is this possible, if so, how? Please, and thank you very much!

I have no experience with PLC's and have been tasked to automate some old equipment

We Have several types of lapping machines I maintain that all work basically the same, I am thinking a PLC may be a good choice. Here is how basically every piece of equipment works:
1. Operator sets an old resettable mechanical Timer to desired cycle time from 10 seconds to 30mins or more.
2. Press Start
3. Slurry Pump comes on Table starts to rotate (Motor is VSD controlled mostly Yaskawa V1000's)
4. during run, they squirt lamp oil as a lube as motor current raises.
5. cycle stops, they raise the air cylinders and pull their product.
6. they reset to beginning of cycle

what they want to do:
1. is automate the lube application based on motor current.
2. automate cycle duration based on table temperature

What I would like to do:
1. Use a PLC with a touch screen to replace the Timers and buttons.
2. use current sensors and infrared sensors to control pumps with specific setpoints.

What PLC mfg is reasonably priced and fairly easy to set up?
