What is DA (Domain Authority) & PA (Page Authority) and Role of Moz Rank in SEO

Hello everyone, welcome back to our website and I hope you are getting along with your life pretty well. I always try to discuss the latest tools of SEO that help you in growing your business and set you on top of the search engine. Today I am going to talk about a new topic that is “What is DA And PA & Role of Moz Rank in SEO”.

Moz Rank is an SEO tool that measures your website links popularity score. But most of the marketers are using it to track the search engine result page (SERP) ranking of different website pages and the whole website.

Keep in mind that Moz rank metrics have not any link with Google Search Engine but these are MOZ metrics.

DA and PA are two terms used by Moz to give the score of your website and all the other pages of the website. You can examine the Domain Authority (DA) and Page Authority (PA) of your website and compare it to your competitors and build SEO strategies to compete with your opponents.

DA is GLOBAL, one domain on the whole internet but PA is LOCAL to your individual site.

So let's jump into it and discover in further detail about it.

What is Domain Authority (DA)

DA is a parameter of Moz, that helps you to predict the search ranking score of your website. That score will analyse how well a website will rank on the search engine result pages (SERPs).

Check the Technical Definition of DA on MOZ website

Domain Authority is based on data from our Link Explorer web index and uses dozens of factors in its calculations. The actual Domain Authority calculation itself uses a machine learning model to predictively find a "best fit" algorithm that most closely correlates our link data with rankings across thousands of actual search results that we use as standards to scale against.

The range of domain authority score is one to 100. The higher score DA website would have high chances to rank quickly. So keep an eye on your website and check it daily to know about the score of your website.

There are different factors included to calculate the DA:

  • Linking Root domains.
  • Number of total links.
  • Ranking Strength.

Moz has recently updated their way of calculating metrics and Moz DA 2.0 update is quite amazing as compared to the old version. People are going crazy over it because now it is more reliable with much better indication. It is helping people in many ways for their business growth.

What Is A Good Domain Authority (DA)

There are sites that are leading on the online web for ages, because of a large number of high-quality external link and their quality content. Their DA is high, like Google and Wikipedia.

But the small business website has low DA because of few inbound and external links. When a new brand starts a website they always have to start with a 1 DA score.

For this reason, New websites take time to reach 70 to 80 DA scores. You should first perform a website audit of your competitors' sites.

Hence, MOZ is a comparative tool there is no good and bad Domain Authority.

So, DA (Domain Authority) just predicts the rank ability of your website. You should not make this only goal to just increasing in your DA score. There are many other factors that you should keep in mind too. Keep track of your competitors metrics and do a comparison between them. AND make an aim to compete your competitor's DA score.

What is Page Authority (PA)

  • PA is another parameter of Moz. It predicts how specific your page will rank on search engine rank pages (SERPs).
  • The score of PA is from one to 100. If your PA score will be higher then it will be easy to rank.
  • There are dozens of factor that take care of this process and measure the strength of each page.
How is Page Authority (PA) scored
100 points of the algorithm scale used to calculate the score of PA. There are hundreds of cases and reports out there that shows that it is easy to increase score from 30 to 40 than it is to increase from 70 to 80.
Where you can find DA and PA?
You can find DA and PA on MozBar website and through our online SEO tool. Moz has incorporated with tons of SEO online tool, they are providing you DA and PA on their sites.

How to use these metrics in SEO?

Two things you need to consider are:
  • Examine whether google is ranking links and pages
First and formest you need to figure out the content in that page. Especially, the length of your webpage and compare it with your own website. Then check out the DA of it. Most of the time the top result contain high DA of (60-70) or +. This would suggest that you have to need dozens of quality links to be at the top of the chart. Otherwise, there would be chances that top pages have a little DA score and just because of a good article. Currently, this is common now.
  • Look at the individual pages and rank them according to PA
For the individual pages of your website, you can track them by their PA score or by individual page. Sometimes a page is working well but there PA is down. So don’t bother about this much and add some quality links to push your page up the top. Focus on good internal links that can boost your page and provide value to the readers.

5 Factors Every SEO Specialist Should Consider during Website Audit

Hello friends, I hope you all are doing great. In today's tutorial, I am going to show you 5 Factors Every SEO Specialist Should Consider during Website Audit. A website audit is a complex investigation of a web platform that is significant for its functionality, promotion, and development. An audit includes analyzing search engines, correcting any problems that prevent it from achieving high-ranking positions, and checking the content and website structure. It shows whether a previous strategy was effective and helps to come up with a new one. It is a regular checkup, and your website is a patient. An audit shows what needs repair in order to attract organic traffic and strengthen ranking position. When performing an audit, there are numerous features to consider such as:
  • backlinks check;
  • website monitoring;
  • navigation and usability check;
  • keywords detection for improving organic search results;
  • investigating the competitors;
  • on page seo check .
  • website health check
Every SEO specialist should focus first on analyzing the link base.

Choosing the tools

Search engine algorithms are constantly changing and evolving as research tools keep upgrading together with requirements for web resources. You can choose the most effective by conducting a survey among your colleagues, checking out forums and professional media or using different tools on your own to assist in completing the task more efficiently. Remember to consider that one tool may perform better than another. Inexperienced SEO specialists sometimes pay more attention to keywords and website structure since they are easier to comprehend. However, link research is the core of a website audit with SitecheckerPro and Majestic as a top option for examining links and search engines parameters. There are three methods for using Majestic
  • Define website trust when looking for donors. Pay attention to Citation Flow and Trust Flow parameters to find good platforms for cooperation.
These parameters will help you to analyze whether all the backlinks are suitable your website theme. These two numbers shouldn`t be too different from each other.
  • User analysis for all website links. Use the findings to come up with a strategy of promotion.
You can explore what type of links your competitors use or analyze your own ones. The main advantage of Majestic is its scale: you are able to analyze up to 10 competitors simultaneously and get access to the largest database of links.
  • Determine the technical health of the site, in order to correctly optimize your website for search engine rankings you can do with the help of Sitechecker.pro.
It is possible to check some of its features:
  1. Analyze the page for errors in the URL;
  2. robots.txt and sitemap;
  3. internal and external links.
  • Also, you can use extra features like website monitoring to track the most important pages. It is really useful when you want to monitor indexing issues or content changes.
With the help of this software you can track the active number of errors, improve your website health and SEO ranking. Below are the 5 important factors to consider when doing a website audit:

#1. Backlinks analysis

Backlinks are the external links to your website. Each backlink is a piece of a puzzle that plays an important role in indexing. The sources and quantity of web page backlinks define the importance of a page and how a search engine decides on the order of link display. Backlinks help to attract a primary audience but remember that quantity doesn’t always define the quality. Strong website architecture requires fewer backlinks. During analysis, you may stumble upon information that will become helpful for improving general design. Sitechecker Pro users can check essential backlink parameters. You can start from the Free Backlink Checker: the more reliable the website is that you choose, the better it influences your reputation. The best way is to come up with a short list of trusted websites for efficient backlinks is to use Sitechecker Pro for primary analysis and then do some manual work. A check feature analyses the number of links and domains and then creates a report with trusted themes for all URL addresses. You can look through the top 10 or 20 positions to check everything closely. Indexing data is also displayed in Backlink Checker Report, helping you to attract attention of search engines to the important information.  Make sure all the important information is indexed. In Sitechecker, users can also view all 404 error pages and redirect chains and reclaim the ones that are not working.

#2. Anchors analysis

The next step will define whether your links include spam or irrelevant anchors. Anchors are a powerful tool that can either take your website to the top or result in sanctions and blockage. It depends on how good you are at using them. An anchor is a text part of a link – a clickable content that disguises a portal to another page. This text usually consists of keywords inserted directly in the sentence. The more relevant the anchor is, the more significant weight is transmitted by the link. This relevance lies in the relationship between text and link: it should be obvious and logical. Sometimes it is useful to break the main search of synonyms and epithets to make anchors more diverse. There is no perfect strategy for optimal anchor choice. Analyze the choice of competitive web resources and find the most efficient option. What is your best chance to analyze anchors? The answer is – anchor cloud. If you can`t afford majestic tool, there is a free one from Sitechecker. It shows anchors to every backlink you would like to track. With this information you can:
  1. Analyze anchor text. If it is not suitable for your business or contain spam words, you have to remove or decline such backlinks. Otherwise, you can get a penalty or warnings from search engines.
  2. Explore the topic. Google likes websites which relevant links. If your blog is about Tech but all the backlinks are left from Fashion blogs, there is a big reason to wonder whether you are a spammer.
  3. Check external backlinks. It will help you to determine which sites are suitable for you.

#3. Internal links analysis

Now, let’s pay attention to internal structure and navigation. A convenient menu is just the tip of the iceberg. For better performance, you need to create an integral infrastructure and interlink the pages within the website. Besides convenience, this step increases the thematic and statistic weight of the website. The more links lead to a particular page, the more weight it carries. Smart distribution of internal links has a positive influence on indexation results, especially if your website consists of four or more pages. The connections should be logical and help a user to find information faster. Make sure there are no broken links or irrelevant anchors. You can receive the full list of the links that are used for website ranking through Majestic Site Explorer. It is possible to get the list of links found on your website currently and those that were used before. You can see what is working, what is effective, and what needs to be fixed. For instance, some pages were closed or deleted, but you kept sending traffic there. You can solve the problem with a full report of the issues. For these purposes you can try website health checker from Sitechecker. Launch website audit and get the information about all technical errors. You can find 404 error pages, check their anchors and remove from your website.

#4. Analysis of the competitors

It is important to know your rivals and what is going on in the industry. The analysis of the competitors is crucial for making strategic decisions and understanding the place of your project within the market. To choose the competitors for tracking, you can use keyword analysis via Majestic. Even if you know your rivals, there is a chance to stumble upon some strong candidates with promising SEO strategies that can become a threat in the future. If you have many keywords in common an analyzed website is your direct rival. If its visibility is high, it probably uses the right strategy for SEO optimization. You need to compare the frequency of visits, the number of indexed pages, keyword density, structure and content, interlinking, etc. You can analyze general features and specific approaches that are important for promotion such as domain age, the number of visitors, meta information, and linking strategy. This data will help you to come up with new ideas and a fresh approach to your own web resource.

#5. Data examining and monitoring

Tracking reports help to keep a check on server uptime, download speed, viruses, and even changes on pages, similar to indexation status and robots.txt file status, and page code. Why is this so important? With time, new people get involved in the working process, the majority with little understanding of SEO. You can explain the basics but monitoring the changes wouldn't go amiss. You should scan websites to detect such changes and view all notes regarding them in a journal. Great feature getting mails from special when new links are added and get updates on their status. It is possible to get complete SEO reports on the backlinks to compare their value. Keep monitoring the key competitors to get the reports on the relevant link building campaigns every 10 days. Track the important keywords and compare those with competitors’ performance, too.

Conclusion - How an audit benefits your website

A website audit is a set of complex measures that require time and analysis that help with:
  • behavioral factors improvement;
  • organic traffic increase;
  • higher position in search results;
  • conversion enhancement;
  • and better perspectives for monetization.
When you need to detect all issues of the websites functioning and analyze the competitive environment, choose a comprehensive audit which includes a technical audit, SEO analysis, usability check, and a marketing audit. The technical audit is aimed at analyzing hosting, website coding, website management features, software vulnerability, loading time, etc. SEO audit shows website success regarding its rating in search engines. You are to investigate content quality, external links, indexed pages, the correctness of titles and meta tags.  The purpose of a usability check is to detect how convenient your website is for users by studying website design and analyzing the ease of technical manipulations, such as entry and exit and filling in electronic applications. The final stage helps to make sure the website is compliant with the requests of the target audience and has advantageous differences compared with competitors’ websites. A website audit is a significant step in upgrading your web resource, and it should not be neglected. Timely and high-quality analysis ensures the stable and efficient functioning of a website. Conducting an audit on a regular basis guarantees that your web resource will occupy high positions in the search results and ensure new customers.

PBN in 2019: New Best Practices to Employ

It’s 2019, and everyone’s wondering if PBNs or Private Blog Networks are still worth building. Some would say yes, while others say no. Looking back at how it started (who can forget how Google penalized two public blog network and made them a cautionary tale?), there will always be proponents and opponents of this SEO technique. PBNs gathered steam in 2014, but people have been searching about them since 2005 based on Google Trends. It is highly likely that it has been used by many SEOs since then or even earlier. When it became the go-to strategy for grey hat SEO, the conversation went from “maybe” to “how to use PBNs effectively”. In fact, deciding which is the best solution for hosting became a critical part of building PBNs. After all, the choice of web hosting has a direct impact on whether your PBN will be flagged for a manual review. The success of PBNs, however, depends on many factors. You should first have a look at PBN introduction.

What is a PBN or Private Blog Network?

This is a network that has a number of blogs linking back to the main blog. It helps a blog rank on the top of search results, which is basically equivalent to manipulating SERPs using a number of backlinks. For this reason, search engines have developed smarter algorithms that can de-index a page using PBNs. So why bother? It provides a shortcut to ranking a page. For instance, content can be spun, cutting down the time needed to develop content. You can also use a Waybackmachine to search for blogs that have been used as PBNs and analyze the quality of their links. The process is not entirely quick and easy. But it is quicker and easier than building a blog from scratch. So, is PBN still worth building in 2019? Yes it is. You just need to be smart about it and ensure you have a good return on investment and a good return on time.

2019 PBN Best Practices

The new formula is PBNs + Outreach
Most PBN links are directed to the homepage, which will make the page highly suspicious if it becomes saturated with links. There should be links to inner pages as well. This can be achieved through outreach, where you find other websites to exchange page links with or guest posts. Building a successful PBN and evade de-indexation is not easy. But the new formula has an added a new challenge to the strategy. In the past, PBNs are the way to eliminate the need to do outreach or build relationships, which many consider a waste of time. This isn’t exactly a good thing but the focus then was to use time wisely, not outreach. 2019 is telling you something else entirely. If you look at it, outreach is the solution to strengthen PBN’s weak spot. A volume of PBNs is half the power of link building that provides short-term boosting strength. What you need is the other half that offers long-term benefits through links that continue to mature in authority and trust. So, this 2019, your blog should have a blend of PBNs and Outreach.
Optimize anchor text
The wrong anchor text makes anything look bad. So you should master choosing the right anchor text and distributing them properly. Matt Diggity of Diggity Marketing has provided a complete guide for optimization that you can use in 2019. One thing is vital, however, Anchors must look natural, resulting in variety. The more natural anchors come from your backlinks, the less likely they’ll look the same.
  • Use a mix of different texts
  • Use a pillow anchor with the usual Target + City anchors
  • Use a diverse set of anchors--Brand Anchors, Target Anchors, Topic Anchors, URL Anchors
  • Use miscellaneous phrase--”click here”, “learn more”
As for the type of distribution to use, do your homework and find out which strategy is typically used in your niche.
Avoid keyword cannibalization
  • This happens when a single site has two pages or more that rank for the same keywords.
  • If two or all of the pages come up for the same query a user searches, all of them are performing worse than a single page doing badly on SERPs.
  • So make sure to check for keyword cannibalization. Use Ahrefs tools and refer to their cannibalization guide.
Measure link velocity
  • How many new links do you need to get per unit of time to make a real difference in ranking?
  • The exact number or calculation remains a hot topic for debate but nothing like a good measurement to provide you with answers.
  • Track a steady drip of links per month and see if they make serious changes. Does the velocity measure accumulation at a slow or fast pace?
Link PBNs to Outreach
This practice gained popularity in 2018 and is likely to continue in 2019. It is one way to boost tier 1 (best) links by linking them with tier 2 (low-quality) links. With PBNs providing a source of links at all levels, you should employ this strategy.
Go slow with backlinks during the sandbox stage
Consider this as the probationary period for young domains. This means staying true to the whitest hat ranking factors and following Google’s guidelines like a good boy. With a young domain under close scrutiny, doing anything and everything to reach the top quickly and outrank other top sites is a recipe for disaster. The site will get stuck in the sandbox.
Recycle PBNs
Have you reached the #1 position? Rather than stop link velocity, which will put you at risk of being kicked down the rankings, you should recycle PBNs to keep backlink activity fresh and active. Many SEOs employ different strategies to make this happen.
  • Kill and replace 1 link per week
  • Remove 1 link and add 2 more or vice versa
With this strategy, the link profile is kept fresh minus the risk of changes that may cause penalties.
PBNs or No PBNs?
Using a private blog network is not failproof, but it does provide you with a level of control in SEO. You also get instant authority, especially when leveraging an aged and trusted website’s authority. Success won’t come easy. But employ the best PBN practices in 2019 and you will be closer to it.

You cannot grow and excel in your relevant niche if you fail to create content that seduces both search engines and visitors. When someone comes to your blog or website, they come up with some idea of getting value in return for their valuable time they spend on your blog. You cannot create a post about anything all the while ignoring visitors' needs and demands. Before you create content, you must have a proper content strategy in place that helps you stay above and beyond of your competitors. I have combined all SEO tutorials on a single page where you can get all posts related to On Page and Off Page SEO. In today's tutorial, I'll unlock the things required to create top-notch content for SEO that helps you get more visitors on your blog and makes your content appear on the top of search results. Let's get started.

How to Create SEO Optimized Content

You must consider the following points before you create SEO content for your blog:
  • How it is relevant
  • Contains the main keyword
  • Brings value to the visitors
  • Comes with Quality
  • Conveys the main idea
Creating an SEO optimized plays an important role in On-Page SEO. Most of the people are quite familiar with the word SEO-Optimized Content, but, those who are not, I'm going to make it clear in simple words.

What is SEO Optimized Content?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a list of tips and techniques required to make your blog optimize for search engines. When you are talking about search engines, you are mostly considering three main search engines i.e Googles, Bing, Yahoo. Content is a data and information spread across your website that conveys the main idea what your blog is about and what types of major services you are providing to the potential visitors. There are two ways to speak your heart out i.e. written content and graphical content that contains videos, infographics, and interviews with influencers.
  • If we combine the two terms above, we can conclude, SEO Optimized Content is a way of creating, analyzing and modifying your content for search engines that help you gain more traffic and increase your sales.
Following are the main practices you can do and make your content optimize for SEO and attract more visitors.
Main Goal
Start your work with the main goal you are trying to achieve. Write the main points that you want to target. It depends on the nature of the blog or the product you are offering. Creating content merely with the intention of getting blog traffic can put your reputation at huge risk. Of course, you want more traffic but you can't create content for the sake of traffic only, this will badly affect your reputation, that ultimately increases your bounce rate and visitors won't prefer coming to your website again.
Keyword Research
Keyword research is the next step once you are clear about your main goals. The main keyword is a word people choose when they look for a specific query on the internet. It can be a single word or a combination of words. Keyword research involves, how your main goal is achieved by targeting the main words people mostly use to search for a specific query. There are many online tools you can use to do keyword research including Google keyword planner is free of cost. You can use other tools also by signing up to free trial version. However, you need to pay for getting premium membership. If you are new you can start with Google keyword planner.
Avoid Keyword Stuffing
Avoid keyword stuffing is an advice frequently used, and seeing its importance, I'm mentioning it in my post as well.
  • No need to put the main keyword plenty of times in your post. Doing so will be considered as manipulation and Google will take no time banning your content.
  • Whenever you create the post, put the main keyword in the sentence where all words support it and fit naturally in the post. Don't use a keyword for the sake of mentioning it anyway.
Analyze the Content
You can't create content and get away with it. You need to keep a deep eye on the post that is widely shared and accepted by the number of visitors.
  • If your main focus is on social media, then you can use our Social Media Counter that helps you get a number of social shares of a certain blog post. This will help you optimize your content and create it more content that is getting more number of shares.
  • You can also curate and optimize the posts that are continuously overlooked by the visitors. Analyzing and accessing your content can save you a bunch of time that you waste creating content which is not quite in line with the requirements of the visitors.
  • Google analytic is another tool to look at the statistics of your content that help you create the content
Longer is Better
Research shows longer content is better than a shorter one in terms of SEO. If you are creating content quite often, you keep the length of the post as short as 600 words; still, it depends on the nature of post you intend to create. Writing a content for product descriptions may contain less than 1000 words. However, if you are creating content that mainly addresses the major concerns of your visitors, then the content must contain at least 2000 words.
  • Google prefers the content that is in-depth and brings value to the visitors.
When you create longer content, you come with a higher chance of optimizing your content for more number of keywords. Sometimes it happens, you create content around a specific keyword, but your content gets optimized for other keywords.
Don't Compromise on Quality
I hope you are convinced why longer content is better. However, people feel quite overwhelmed when it comes to creating a longer content. Becuase, for longer posts, keeping the attention of visitors intact is not an easy job. People don't have enough time to spend plenty of time over your webpage until you succeed in conveying your main idea quite impressively without losing the visitors' interest.
  • No need to write a post in a hurry. Take your time and don't compromise on quality.
  • Make it easy and simple. Avoid adding difficult words in your post (except where necessary).
  • Add sentences in your post that make sense
  • There must be flow in your article that visitors don't feel hesitation in gliding from one sentence to another.
  • Once you create the post, rest for a while before editing it. When you take some time, you can have a fresh look at the content.
Fresh Content
Keep updating your blog with fresh content every now and then. Google prefers the blog who are updating and creating fresh content quite often.
  • Creating a post on the daily basis sometimes look quite intimidating when you have to focus other areas of business as well. You can hire the content writer for this purpose.
  • However, if you running your blog or business single-handedly, then two posts per week would be enough to stay alive in the eyes of Google search engine.
Include External and External Link
Links play a vital role in making your content appear quite often. Both external and links are equally important to gain more visitors and help visitors stay on your site for plenty of time.
  • Interlinking your posts with other posts in the same domain will bring your older posts upfront and help in the page ranking.
  • Give value to the external links where it's due. If you think the post you are creating needs some external links, then don't hesitate to mention and add those links in your article. This will indicate you are not only concerned with financial gains but also help others appear in front of potential visitors.
Convey One Idea At a Time
When you aim to create a blog post, try to target one idea at a time and produce a post around it. If you fill up the post with too many instructions and ideas, it would make difficult for the visitors to digest the main concept easily.
  • Instead of making paragraphs too long, make content attractive with the number of headlines, bold characters, and each paragraph contains not more than 3 to 4 sentences.
Create List or How to Posts
Your chance of appearing on the top of search engines multiplies when you create quality content, better than competitors in your niche.
  • Content that contains a number of lists for doing the specific task will attract more traffic. Similarly, starting your post title with "How to" post seems quite catchy and provokes people to click on your post.
  • Creating a content such way is very competitive but still holds some value. When you see some blog post is giving solution of a certain problem by 10 ways, you can come up with a post that gives a solution to the same problem with 12 different ways.
Include CTA
You can include CTA (call to action) at the end of the post. This can range from subscribing a newsletter, downloading a free ebook, to getting free offers.
  • Every post is created with some purpose in mind. Some people are merely concerned with the traffic and some want to increase their sales. Include CTA that resonates with your requirements and helps visitors solve their problems.

Writing a Quality Post in 45 Minutes is a Myth?

Searching for the post title seems quite enticing and attractive which reads "Write Quality Post in 45 Minutes". I got a hands-on experience in article writing before I started managing the article writers for content creation. After having words with them for the time they spent on article writing, I came to know writing a quality content varies from person to person. Some are able to produce an exceptional post in 45 minutes and some struggle after spending too time much in writing. Some people claim they create a quality post in 45 minutes. Just to let you know, they are referring here writing time only that doesn't include
  • Research process
  • Editing process
  • Blog post title
  • Interlinking,
  • Image creation,
  • Meta description
  • And making your post ready for your blog.
After spending too much time on blogging and article writing still, I take 5 to 6 hours for writing 2000 words post including all prerequisites before I hit a publish button. No need to worry if you can't create a post in 45 minutes. Take as much time as you can. If you try to copy others and create content in a hurry, you most probably lose real essence in your writing. Point is, don't compromise on quality for the sake of writing content quickly.  If you are new to blogging or pretty nifty about your skills, make sure, the content you create must come with excellence and bring value to the visitors.

Final Thought

  • Content plays a vital role in bringing more traffic to your blog. Quality content not only comes with a higher chance of appearing on the top of search engines but also brings value to the visitors and helps them stay longer on your website.
  • Make your content relevant and optimized around certain keywords.
  • Longer content comes with more value than a shorter one. However, never ignore the importance of quality content for the purpose of creating longer content.
  • Create fresh content quite often with the intention of keeping visitors' demands on the top.
  • No need to copy others. Come with your own idea. Or if you are inspired by someone else's idea, grab the main concept and incorporate it into your own words.
  • Never forget to add CTA at the end of the post.
That's all for today. I hope you have got a clear idea about creating SEO optimized content. In the next article, we discuss Alt Tag and how is necessary for image SEO. If you are unsure or have any question you can ask me in the comment section below. I'd love to help you in any way I can. How to Structure Blog Post URL - Best Practices Tips and Techniques

Hey Guys! Hope you are doing well. I am back to give you a daily dose of useful information. Today, I'll uncover How to Structure Blog Post URL - Best Practices Tips and Techniques. This is the fourth article covering a complete SEO series. You can check my previous article about Meta description where you learn the tips and techniques required to write a compelling meta description. When you are writing a blog post, you must be considering a lot of factors that help you stay on the top of search results. You cannot write a blog post without any proper SEO strategy in place and pray for the post go viral. The URL is the web address specifically allocated to every webpage. No one can find your data on the web without a URL. Does it affect ranking factor? Everyone is concerned about this question. The answer is yes it affects, but not as much as you consider it to be. You must be giving attention to other parts of SEO without obsessing too much with URL structure. If you know how to structure your URL, only a few minutes are enough to do it a right way. Getting a top spot on the search results is more like a science which requires proper planning. Proper optimization of a blog is divided into several steps, if every step is done a right way, even if it brings 1% value, they all add up and help your data appear in front of the relevant visitors. Similarly, making your post URL optimized and readable brings more value and help you convey the main idea without much effort. Before we move on, you can also have a look at an ultimate guide of SEO tutorials where I have combined all articles pertaining to On Page SEO and Off Page SEO on a single page. In today's tutorial, I'll cover each and everything related to optimizing URL, benefits, best practices and everything you need to know. Let's get started.

How to Structure Blog Post URL

Before we move on and learn the best practices to structure URL, let's define it first. What is URL? The URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, is a specific web address allocated to the certain web page. Every webpage is created with a unique URL. The URL of the page is no different than the physical address of any house. Every place on the earth comes with specific address i.e. its location, area, street number house number which is different for every place on the earth. Similarly, every webpage is created with a unique URL which is actually a virtual address of the webpage that helps you find the relevant data on the internet.
  • Question is how do you optimize your URL? Or is it okay and allow WordPress picks up and selects it according to the title of the blog post?
Stay with me, I'll help you step by step on how to structure your URL and make it easy to read and easy to digest. Following are the main points you must be considering before you intend to structure URL of the blog post.
Add Keyword
Until now, you must have heard the importance of keywords and how they can help you stand out of others. You must add the main keyword in the URL of the post. It is okay to place it anywhere in the URL, however, it is preferred to place it in the begging of URL so It conveys the right idea about the nature of the blog post.
  • Brian Dean from Backlinko and John Lincoln (CEO of Ignite Visibility) advised picking one or two keywords per URL.
Avoid Keyword Repetition No need to repeat the keyword in the URL. Keyword repetition is pointless as it carries no weight for search engines. It is considered as a keyword stuffing where you add keyword more than once to manipulate the search engines and allow them to prefer and find your data quickly across the web. This practice was useful before Google's new algorithm named Panda and Penguin came into place.
Number of words
Choosing a right URL for lengthy blog post titles is a little bit tricky and requires sometimes to make it sweet and short so it conveys the right idea using less number of words. Before I suggest you choose the right number of words, check the words by Matt Cutts about the URL of the post. In this interview with Matt Cutts, Matt mentions the following regarding the length of your slug:

"If you can make your title four- or five-words long – and it is pretty natural. If you have got a three, four or five words in your URL, that can be perfectly normal. As it gets a little longer, then it starts to look a little worse. Now, our algorithms typically will just weight those words less and just not give you as much credit."

So, make it short and try to deliver the main idea using less number of words.
Must be Specific
Making URL generic is practiced by a number of bloggers, however making it specific is a right approach to structure URL. Suppose you have written a post about On Page SEO, There are two ways to structure URL for this Post
  • www.domain.com/seo
Former is quite relevant but doesn't make URL unique and specific to the blog topic. Later is a better way to pick URL that conveys the right idea that post is mainly addressing On Page SEO.
Adding Categories
Allocate one category to the post and then (if needed) place subcategory further to make it more specific
  • www.domain.com/cricket
If you are talking about the certain team then you can add subcategory further
  • www.domain.com/cricket/teams
Make it more specific if you are talking about a certain team
  • www.domain.com/cricket/teams/england
And if you are talking about any player then you can do this way
  • www.domain.com/cricket/teams/england/players
The more you make URL specific, the more it is easy for the visitors to hunt down and reach a specific content.
Adding Numbers in URL
Some people add numbers in the URL. It is okay to add numbers but not preferred. Let's have a look at the following example. You may struggle, if later, you come up with an idea of modifying your post and create a better version of it and stay alive in search engines. In the example above, you want to add 5 more ways to save time and make it valuable and productive, then your post title won't match with the URL once you modify the title and make it "20 Ways to Make Your Time Productive". I hope you get an idea. As an added note: There is no harm of adding numbers in the post unless you are sure, you are not going to edit and modify the title in the future.
Long vs Short
Shorter is better in terms of structuring URL. Google prefers posts that are in-depth and come with more number of worlds, however, it is acceptable for written content only. In terms of SEO, short URL comes with more value and delivers the right idea more precisely. Picking long URL can put the visitors in difficulty where they feel skeptical about the main idea of the post. The more you specific using less number of words, the better. We can see the following example. The first method is not preferred. If you see the second example, it conveys the main idea quite impressively without using "how to". and "home based jobs" because when you have already mentioned in the URL that post is about online earning, then no need to make it longer by adding "home based jobs", as it's pretty obvious when you are referring to online, you are making it clear, it can be approached anywhere in the world i.e.home, office or any remote location.
Avoid Stop Words
Stops words are not preferred in the URL. These words are just used to connect the two words and indicate if a subject is singular or plural.
  • A
  • An
  • The
  • But
  • Or
  • So
The above words are known as stop words. These words are necessary to make the content grammatically correct however, they are not preferred to be added in the URL. Google won't be giving any warning if you use these words, however, these words hold no weight in terms of page ranking or SEO. Search engines prefer URL that is short. You must remember two things
  • It is preferred to skip these words if the URL makes sense and conveys the right idea
  • With that being said, if you think skipping these words would make URL weird and senseless, then there is no harm including these words in the URL.
You may feel difficulty in structuring the URL at the start of blogging, however, with practice, you will grow and able to make clinical URL structures that make sense with a minimum number of words. It is all about practice and how quickly you learn and make yourself adaptable with the SEO protocols and practices that help you stay ahead of your competitors.
Avoid Special Characters
You must avoid adding special characters in the URL. Search engines don't prefer them in the URL, as they are not SEO friendly. Following symbols are considered as special characters ? <, > " ! / When you are creating a web post, you are focusing on the best SEO practices to make your content stand out and appear in front of maximum potential visitors. In terms of SEO, adding special characters is not a good practice and strictly prohibited by the search engines.
Include Hyphen, Avoid Underscore
Adding hyphens in the URL is acceptable and common practice by most of the bloggers. In fact, when you create the URL, the words appearing in the URL are already separated by the hyphens. If you search for something on Google, it automatically splits your query with a hyphen in each word and can better understand your problem and pull up the most relevant information. Same works for structuring URL i.e. when you add hyphens in the URL, you are making your words clear and specific and quite in line with the best practices for SEO.

Final Thought

The URL of the post is very handy when it delivers the right idea with a minimum number of words. Make it short, sweet and readable. Adding more words would make your URL weird and difficult to digest. Avoid special characters in the URL. No need to repeat the main keyword more than once. Adding one or two keywords in the URL is good practice. Include hyphens and avoid underscore. No need to add numbers in the URL. If you do, you won't be able to edit and modify the number in future. That's all for today. I hope you have got a clear idea about the structuring of URL. In the next article, we discuss how to write SEO optimized content that helps you attract a number of visitors. If you are unsure or have any question, you can ask me in the comment section below. I'd love to help you in any way I can. You are most welcome to share your thought about structuring URL of the post. Thanks for reading the article.

What is an Alt Tag? How to use it for SEO-Friendly Images

Hey Fellas! I am back to keep you updated with relevant information that resonates with your field of interest. Today, I'll discuss What is an Alt Tag? How to Use it for SEO-Friendly Images? This is the sixth article covering a complete SEO series. You can also have a look at my previous article about writing SEO optimized content. A picture is worth a thousand words. An old phrase - still enough to convey the real importance of a single image. Adding a relevant image is a prerequisite to flavor up the written content. An alt tag is also known as alt text, alt attribute or alt description, that is used to define the nature of the image. It plays a vital role to describe the image in words i.e. what image is about and how it is related to the written content. Alt tags are very useful to help Google crawlers find your image on the web. You'd be doing injustice if you are creating awesome images and fail to embed relevant alt text in them. Research shows, content that contains a number of images, comes with a higher chance of being clicked and reduce bounce rate. Some people come over to your webpage with the intention of scanning through the content. If both content and images are interlinked and help each other to convey the right idea, they absorb the visitors' attention and help them stay for a maximum period of time. SEO is mainly divided into two parts i.e. On Page SEO and Off Page SEO. The Alt Tag falls under On Page SEO which also includes other factors like meta description, internal linking, blog post title and written content etc. You can check complete guide of SEO tutorials where I have listed all articles relating to On Page and Off Page SEO. In today's tutorial, I'll uncover each and everything related to alt tags, how you can use them for making SEO friendly images, benefits and everything you need to know.

What is an Alt Tag?

An Alt Tag is a text used to describe the nature of an image in words. Other terms like alt description, alt text, and alt attribute are used in place of an alt tag. It doesn't appear on the page unless you right click on the image and go to inspect. This text actually appears in the HTML code. There is a difference between how humans perceive images and how search engines see them. Search engines are not quite intelligent to visually check the nature of the image. This is where alt text comes into play. If you right click the above image and go to inspect, the alt tag will appear as follows:
  • You can see the alt text I have selected for this image. The title tag of the image appears at the end of the URL which is part of the whole URL and when someone clicks on the image the title appears on the hyperlink where it shows the nature of the image to visitors.

Importance of Alt Tags

Alt tags are very important in terms of SEO There is no point of putting a hard work on creating a lot of images for your blog post if no one can see them.
  • These tags are very handy for the people who are visually impaired and use screen readers to approach the relevant content on the internet.
  • If you succeed in creating relevant alt tag for the post, you are making it easy for the search bots to find your data on the web.
  • It is observed, when you create content and hit publish, your images get ranked quickly before your written content find a top spot on the search results.

What is the Title Tag?

The title tag doesn't help crawlers to find the image, instead, it is added for the visitors what the image is about. The alt tag is to search bots what is title tag to visitors. John Mueller, Google 2017, makes it pretty clear the purpose of alt text and title tag. "Alt attribute should be used to describe the image. So if you have an image of a big blue pineapple chair you should use the alt tag that best describes it, which is alt=”big blue pineapple chair.” title attribute should be used when the image is a hyperlink to a specific page. The title attribute should contain information about what will happen when you click on the image. For example, if the image will get larger, it should read something like, title=”View a larger version of the big blue pineapple chair image.” The figure above shows the location of URL, title and Alt text in the Wordpress panel which appears once you click on the "Add Media" button on the top left corner when you are creating the blog post.
  • You can choose any title after you upload the image from your system. However, it is preferred to name the title of the image before uploading in the WordPress as it will automatically pick up the title of the image, helping you get rid of changing the title again on the add media title section.

Steps to Write Alt Tags for SEO Friendly Images

Now, you have got a clear idea about alt text and how it is different from title tag. Following are some major points you must be considering before you intend to write an alt tag for any image.
Make it Short and Relevant
Alt text must be short and precise and convey the main idea about the image quite impressively. Making it short will help crawlers read and index your image in no time.
  • An ideal length of alt text is about 125 characters.
There is no need to fill up the word count anyway. Pick each word wisely and convey the main idea in fewer characters as possible.
Add Keyword
Optimizing your data for the web is all about picking right keywords. You must add the main keyword in the alt text, so written content matches the image and both help each other conveying a right idea to the visitors.
  • Can we add more than one keyword?
Yes, you can add more than one keyword in the alt text. It is better to split the keywords into two categories.
  • Primary keyword
  • Secondary keyword
Add former at the start of the text and later at the end of the text. This will help you optimize your data for more than one keywords.
Avoid Keyword Stuffing
Keyword stuffing is a practice where you fill up the text number of times with the main keyword all the while ignoring if it makes sense in the text. Doing this is not good and falls under the category of black hat SEO, where people use manipulative techniques to get a top position on the search results.
Adding Same Alt Text for Different Images
Some people are concerned if they can add same alt text for two different images of the same blog post. Yes, you can add same text for two separate images as long as they are quite relevant or have even a remote connection with each other. As an added note: It is advised to add different alt tag for every image for appearing on the top of image search engine and having them ranked for different keywords.
  • Can we add a title of the post in the alt text?
Yes, it is better to add a title of the post in the alt text. Because you have already optimized and made your post title around a certain keyword. This will save you a bunch of time, where you don't have to write the text from scratch around the main keyword.
Adding Business Name
If you are running a business, don't forget to add the business name (on a logo) in the alt text. This will indicate the image is strictly relevant to your brand. You can also add the quote or words that convey the right idea about your business.
Avoid Adding "a picture of" or "an image of"
No need to add words like "a picture of or an image of" in the alt text. You are not writing an alt text for the visitors, you are writing them for search engines and help them find your images on the web.
  • Google crawlers are smart enough to interpret the image when they approach the HTML code of the post.

Not Every Image on your Site Requires Alt Tag

When you are running a blog or website to drive sales, it is difficult to add alt text for every image on the domain.
  • It is okay to leave the alt text blank for some images that are added on your blog for decorative purpose only. Similarly, no need to add the alt text for social media icons on the webpage.

Wordpress Plugin to Automatic Alt Tags

Allocating alt text to every image is very time-consuming when you do it manually. You can use some tools to automate alt text. If you are running a WordPress blog, then you can use SEO Friendly Images - an SEO plugin developed by WordPress. This tool is very handy if you run short of time. It will automatically add the alt text of your images across the whole domain.
  • Before you intend to use this tool, make sure you have already given a proper title to every image.
  • Adding an image with the title like abcd.png will do no good and makes it difficult for the plugin to allocate relevant alt tag to the image.

Final Thought

Alt tags are explicitly for optimizing images for SEO, they have nothing to appear your written content on the top of search results. They are visual graphics that convey the right idea about the nature of the images.
  • Don't forget to add alt text for every image. You can use the same alt text for different images in the same blog post.
  • Keep it short and sweet where it conveys the main idea quite impressively.
  • It is preferred to add a title of the post in the alt text.
  • Add the main keyword in the alt text. You can number of keyword words. Make sure, primary keywords are added before secondary keywords.
  • No need to stuff the text with the main keyword plenty of times.
  • Avoid adding words like "a picture of or an image of" in the text.
  • You must add a business name in your text.
  • Leave alt tags for decorative images or social media icons.
That's all for today. I hope you have got a clear idea about the Alt text and how it can be used for any image. In the next article, we cover how to do Internal Linking effectively. If you are feeling skeptical or have any question, you can approach me in the comment section below. I'd love to help you according to the best of my expertise. Internal Linking: Best Practices to Improve SEO

Hello Friends! We always strive to keep you updated with relevant content that suits your requirements. Today, I'll discuss Internal linking Best Practices to Improve SEO. This is the seventh article of complete SEO series. You can check my previous article on Alt Tag which is necessary for making images optimized for SEO. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) plays a vital role to rank your content on the top of search results, ultimately helps in bringing more traffic to your blog. This acts like a boat that is essential to help you flow in the competitive world where thousands of article are posted on the daily basis. SEO, as the word suggests, is the list of tips and techniques required to optimize your content for search engines, so you come with a higher chance to unlock your skills to relevant visitors. It is true, content is the king but writing a content for yourself only, all the while ignoring SEO is enough to ruin all of your hard work. There are many factors required to develop an outstanding SEO strategy, where Internal Linking is one of them. Internal linking is defined as a link on the page that points to another page in the same domain. It is used to provide as much relevant data as possible pertaining to the post visitors are reading. This helps visitors see other pages containing similar data that resonates with their interest. In today's tutorial, I'll discuss each and everything related to Internal Linking and what are the best practices, things to avoid and benefits of internal linking. Let's dive in.

Internal Linking: Best Practices to Improve SEO

Internal links are different than inbound and external links. Before we move on, let's define each of them and how they are different from each other. Internal Link. It is a link on the page that connects to another page of the same domain. Inbound Link. also known as a backlink is a link from another website that links back to your domain. External Link. It is a link you post in the article that points to other domain. What external link is for your domain is a backlink for other domain. Every link comes with its own benefits and used in the domain for different reasons. We need to pay equal attention to every type of link, so your content is equally distributed over the web. If you are creating content from the ground up, then you need to work your butt off for having proper SEO strategy in place and way up the ladder. You can check complete guide of SEO tutorials where you can find a complete list post related to On Page and Off Page SEO.
Placement of Anchor Text
Anchor text is the text that comes with a clickable option and houses a link in it. The anchor text used linking to other posts must flow with the sentence supporting the anchor text. It is not compulsory to add the exact title of the post in the anchor text. Add text that conveys the clear idea about a post you are linking to. Avoid adding text that contains more than one sentence for anchor text. This will make your text awkward and difficult to digest. And the link you share must be relevant to the post. Adding a link that is entirely different from the main topic will bring no value. Anchor text that comes with keyword pertaining to the article you are linking to, brings more value as compared to putting random text in the post.
Written Content In Place
Before you intend to link your page to other web pages on the blog, make sure you have enough written content on your website. Even one article is enough at the start, however, keep your website updating with fresh content in order to make interlinking work effectively. Long articles can house a number of links as compared to shorter ones. When you write a long article, you have a better chance to put and spread links naturally across the whole article.
Link to Older Post
Old content gets ignored most of the time if it doesn't get a pathway to appear frequently in front of the visitors.
  • You must do internal linking with older post quite often so they get a better chance to appear in the SERP.
  • Keep modifying your older posts every now and then, and give them a new look. Add some paragraphs where due and make them adaptable to the recent development on the main topic.
  • When you create a fresh content, link it back to the older post. Create a strategy where both older and new posts are interlinked with each other and bring more value to the visitors.
  • Linking to older post will help increase the page ranking of the older post and establish the link between a well established older post with new one.
Link to Authority Pages
Not all blog posts are created equal. Some are better than others. You can analyze your pages that are getting a decent amount of traffic. Linking to more authority pages will help you rank the pages that come with low value. If you are running a business you prefer linking to your money making page. This is a good practice to boost your earning but avoid adding money making page to every other blog post; this will make your content artificial and convey the idea you prefer financial gains more than the visitors' interest.
Distribution of Links
The links you consider most important must be placed at the start or in the middle of the post when a visitor is reading your post with interest. The visitors are not likely to click the links at the end of the post because once they succeed for getting the value for which they come over to the post, they are less interested in links at the end of the article.

Benefits of InterLinking

There are many benefits for generating a proper interlinking across your domain. Let's discuss them one by one.
Ease the Google Crawling
Internal linking a best tool to develop the relationship between other pages of the same domain. It helps google crawl to older posts that are deeply rooted and mostly overlooked by the search bots. When bots crawl to other pages of the same domain, they give value and help them appear on the top of search results.
Reduce Bounce Rate
Bounce rate is defined as when visitors come over to a certain webpage and close it after spending some time. If your webpage is interlinked to other pages pertaining to the same data on the blog post, it will help reduce the bounce rate and increase the retention of the visitors. When someone comes over to a certain webpage, they are going to click the other interlinked pages that contain relevant information or have even a remote connection with the information visitors are looking for. Of course, you want visitors stay on your site for a maximum period of time without getting bored or deviating from the main subject.
Authority Redistribution
Google gives value to those pages that are frequently visited by the visitors. Interlinking doesn't increase the authority of overall website but it does help in the redistribution of the authority of certain webpage. When some page comes with high ranking and is interlinked to other pages of the same domain, it will transfer the link juice to that page and help it rank faster in the search engine results. No need to worry about the link juice transfer, as it will transfer to other pages of the same domain.

Points of Consideration

You must be vigilant while doing the internal linking to give it a natural look. Following points, you must avoid before internal linking to your post.
Avoid Adding No-Follow Link
Links are divided into two types i.e. no-follow and do-follow. The do-follow link is better than a no-follow link and brings more value to the page. Avoid adding a no-follow link as it won't help in page ranking and doesn't pass any link juice from the source page. No-follow links are mostly used for comment posting and forum posting but not preferred for interlinking.
Avoid Stuffing the Post with a number of Internal Links
Stuffing the article with a number of links is not a good practice. You can add 3 to 5 internal links to other posts and they must be put with some gap among them. Adding all links in the same sentence or same paragraph can affect the reading process for a visitor. And the total number of links including do-follow or no-follow links must not exceed from 150, otherwise, your post will be enough to scare the hell out of the visitors.
Don't Repeat Same Link
Once you put a link in the article, avoid repeating it again in the same post. If you do, it indicates you are more interested to boost the same page instead of fulfilling the demands of the visitors. Keep that in mind, once you plan to write a content, you need to satisfy both i.e. search engines as well as the visitors. Interlinking is for the visitors to provide them better user experience so they feel no difficulty finding the relevant content on your domain.
Avoid Anchor Text "Click Here"
When you write an anchor text for the link to be placed, make sure, it indicates and highlights the main subject of the linking post. Writing "Click Here" is not enough for conveying the clear idea about the post. This brings no value and visitors won't be sure if they are going to click the linking page.
Avoid Adding Home Page Quite Often
You can put the homepage link on multiple blog posts, but, don't add it in every post you produce. Whenever you create a new post, focus more on addressing the main problems of the visitors instead of doing marketing for your product every time. The majority of internal links must connect to the deep-rooted web pages that are hidden from the eyes of potential visitors.

Final Thought

  • Interlinking is very useful to help visitors spend more time on your blog. If it is done a right way, it brings more value to your blog and helps in ranking the pages that remain ignored for plenty of time.
  • Connect old posts with the new ones and build a chain between them so they help each other for appearing on the top of search results.
  • If you are running a business then it is a good practice linking to your money making page, make sure, you won't be mentioning your homepage or landing page link in every post you create.
  • Anchor text plays a vital role in internal linking. The text must be clear and resonate with the linking article.
  • Don't repeat the same link more than once in the same post. And all links must be spread over the post quite naturally. Don't try to fit the link anyway just for the sake of interlinking.

How to Write SEO Friendly Blog Post Titles

Blog post title is a thing self-explanatory. It is a title you choose for your blog post. Writing an accurate blog post title is more like a science. If you browse the internet for a specific query, you will find plenty of blog posts written on the same topic but you prefer clicking only a few of them. What motivates you to only click a specific link? It is true when you search for something, you click a number of links at once, appearing on the first page of Google. However, it not guaranteed, that all pages get a same amount of traffic. Only a few of them survive that follow all the prerequisites required to produce a superb title. Don't you worry. I have got you covered. I'll show you, how you can write SEO friendly blog posts that help you get a reasonable traffic.

Steps Required to Produce Stunning Blog Post Title

Writing a great post title is very essential to make your CTR grow skyrocket. According to Copyblogger, 80% of your visitors will read your headline, but only 20% will continue to finish the article. Following are the main steps for generating SEO friendly and outstanding blog post title.
Keyword Research
Start your journey with keyword research. There are many tools available for doing keyword research, however, following are used quite often.
  • Google Keyword Planner
  • Ahrefs
  • SEMRush
If you are new to blogging then you can start with a free tool like keyword planner. However, it totally depends on your budget. If you can manage to get paid membership right from the start of your blogging career, then you come with a higher chance of succuss because paid tools provide more features to organize your keyword strategy than the free ones. Your blog title must contain the main keyword. It is okay to put the main keyword anywhere in the blog title, however, it is preferred to put it in the start of it.
Length of the Title
Length of the blog title is very important. Keep it under 55 characters, otherwise, it automatically gets trimmed off once it appears in the SERP. Focusing on a long-tail keyword requires more characters for creating a blog title that truly matches and stands fit with the keyword. This is where you need to show your expertise to keep the title within the recommended characters. This is tricky and requires some time before you will be spot on creating a clinical blog title. Rest assured, you will grow as you proceed.
Avoid Keyword Stuffing
Google algorithm was not very advanced and optimized a while ago where you would crowd the blog post with keyword stuffing and got ranked quickly. Now, it is considered as a manipulative criteria to get top position in the search engines and is highly deplorable and not admissible at any cost.
Must be Relevant
Blog post title must be relevant to the main topic. Your blogging success would be on shaky grounds if you write a title with a lot of exaggeration and fail to provide the content what you have promised in the title. This helps you get a number of clicks but it would affect your bounce rate. Once the visitors click on your post and finds it totally irrelevant, they quickly close the page and switch to the next.
Make it Easy
Your blog title must be easy to read and easy to digest. Avoid adding difficult words that make readers do a dictionary search for the specific word in the title.
  • Beginners
  • From Scratch
  • Introduction to
These words will attract the visitors who are getting their hands on something very first time.
Add Words that Trigger Emotions
First impression is the last impression. Some don't agree with this phrase but it works when it comes to writing a blog post title. When your title appears on the SERP, it has only a few seconds to grab the attention of the visitors. Give your title a spoon of spice that triggers emotions. Make sure the words you add, truly resonate with the idea you want to deliver.
  • Delighted
  • Sky Rocket
  • Viral
These words are enough to convey the message that your blog post contains something enticing.
Start with Number
Adding a number before the start of the title makes your blog title specific and helps people resolve the certain query more than one way.
  • Your blog post can stand out by following these steps
  • 10 Steps required to make your blog post go viral
The second title comes with more number of clicks because adding a number makes it more specific where it conveys the main idea quite nicely.
Words that Intrigue Curiosity
A human mind is very obstinate in nature. It is inclined to things that are prohibited and house some uncertainty in them. You can add some words that drive curiosity and allow people to know the truth anyway.
  • Secret
  • Steal
  • Privacy
  • How
  • Why
These words are enough to drive curiosity in the readers. If your title is better than others, you come with a higher chance of getting clicked by a number of visitors. Once the audience clicks the title, this is where your writing skills come handy that can retain the visitors to the end of the post.
Final Step
You have done your keyword search and chose the words to add in the title, now comes a final step to write a blog post. It is preferred to practice blog post title number of times before you pick the final one. Make sure, your title looks natural and sits best with the main keyword. All words in the title must support each other. Before you finalize the article title, you can have a word with webmasters who are expert in blogging and already created blog posts that went viral. You are writing a title for your audience. Keep the requirements and demands of the visitors in mind and see how your blog title helps in delivering the specific solution visitors are looking for. The nature of the articles is different for writing a content for business than writing a content for some blog. If you are writing for some business, then you must focus on adding the words that bring value to the customers.
  • Advantages
  • Benefits
  • Discount
  • Offers
These words will help visitors identify that you are providing something extremely valuable that put you ahead from others in the relevant field. That's all for today. I hope you have found this article useful. In the next article, we cover how to write magical Meta Description that helps you convey a right idea about the summary of the page. What is Meta Description? Steps to Write Killer Meta Description for SEO

Hey Friends! Hope you are doing well. Today, I will discuss What is Meta Description? Steps to Write Killer Meta Description for SEO This is the third article of complete SEO series. You can check my previous article where I have discussed how to write SEO friendly blog post titles. The meta description is a paragraph of text that describes the summary of the web page and appears as a snippet under the title of the page. This is the only chance you get to make the first impression about your content, so make it count. Your description must be relevant and compelling that convince the visitors to click on your webpage. The visitors who are searching for relevant information don't have enough time to click on every page come their way. They just scan through the meta description and if it seems compelling and conveys the right idea, they definitely give a quick read to your content. A number of clicks you get for your page highly depend on the meta description i.e. how it is written and relevant to the solution of the problem visitors are searching for. You can also have a look at an ultimate guide to complete SEO tutorials where I have combined all articles covering complete SEO tips and techniques required for On Page and Off Page SEO. In today's tutorial, I'll discuss each and everything related to meta description that helps you get more clicks. Let's jump right in.

What is Meta Description?

Meta description is the text written in a paragraph that describes the nature and idea of the webpage. It is also known as a snippet of the text that allows search engines to rank your data for a particular query. Meta description gives visitors a clue why they should click on your webpage and how your webpage aligns with the demands of the visitors. If your content is shared across the web or any social media platform then some part of meta description also appears on the shared webpage link. Some platforms show a full snippet of the shared file while some trim off full meta description and includes some part of it. If you are using social media platform quite often, then you must use our Social Share Counter by TEP which helps you check the total number of social shares and create more content based on the topic widely shared across the social media platforms. Some people write content amazingly well but fail to write a convincing meta description that converts. This results in less number of visitors to your webpage. Thousands of web pages are written daily. Some are better than others. Only a few of them stand out from others who follow proper protocols to remain in the race of getting more visitors. If you were writing your content about 15 years ago when there were only a few web pages created every day and SEO was merely introduced, you'd have a greater chance to appear on the top of search results. But things are changing and evolving every day. Nowadays, search engines come with advanced algorithms and strive to give most relevant information to the visitors. Main SEO strategy is now divided into two types.
  • On Page SEO
  • Off Page SEO
Both have equal importance to keep you stay on the top of search results. Writing a compelling and convincing meta description falls under On Page SEO which is the first thing to make your SEO strategy work nicely as per your requirements.

Code for Meta Description

Meta description appears on the HTML code in the following form. <head> <meta name="description" content="What is meta description and how it affects overall SEO."> </head>
What are Meta Tags?
Meta tags, also known as data tags, are enclosed between the opening and closing head tags of the HTML code. These tags do not appear on the webpage but are hidden in the code. Anyone can look at these tags by right-clicking the certain webpage and then look for "view page source". Meta tags don't affect the appearance of the page and convey the idea
  • How the page is created
  • What keywords are included
  • How often the page is updated and the
  • Content summary of the webpage

Google and Meta Description

Length of meta description does matter. At the end of 2017, Google optimized their strategy for writing a meta description. They recommend keeping the length of a meta description under 300 characters. The length may vary somewhere between 50 to 300 characters. However, whatever the length of meta description is, it should be precise and long enough that it conveys the main idea of the article quite impressively. Google made it clear not to worry about the meta descriptions that have been written until now because a length of the description only allows the Google to create the snippet based on the nature of search queries. Now, you have a plenty of characters to convey the main idea of the webpage in a descriptive way, but it doesn't mean you have to fill up space anyway. Keep the main part of the page summary with focus keyword at the start of the description otherwise it gets cut off once it appears on the SERPs. However, if your page is searched plenty of times and aligns with the specific query, Google will show a full snippet of your page. We can examine the meta description of two web pages. I have searched the query "what is artificial intelligence" and Google showed me following with top two results in SERP.
  • If we closely look at the meta description of the first search, we can see it is short as compared to the second one and Google still puts it on the top. It is important to note that the query I have searched doesn't totally match with the title of the search appearing at the top but Google still prefers it.
  • While meta description in the second search in long and exactly matches with my search query i.e What is Artificial Intelligence" but Google still assigns it the second spot in SERP. This is how you can analyze and modify the meta description and write one that stands out.

Keys Points to Write Killer Meta Description

Following are some key points you must consider before writing a meta description.
  • Relevancy
  • Unique Meta Description for Every Post
  • Yoast Tool to Check Word Count
  • Compare your Meta Description
  • Include CTA in the Description
Relevancy
Poorly written meta description can scare the hell out of the visitors and badly affect the overall page ranking. When you write a description, make sure it contains the main keyword and is super relevant to the topic you are discussing. Make it lucrative and little bit exaggerating (without deviating from the main topic) that makes visitor click on your webpage. People may forget what you offer, but they don't forget how you make them feel. Add words in your description that touches the emotion of visitors and make them feel how your content is best suitable and quite in line with their needs and demands. You would be doing injustice to the hard work you put writing the content if you fail to produce a compelling summary of your post. Give the same importance to writing a description as you give writing the first paragraph of your article. For every meta description you are writing, focus on the type and nature of visitors you are targeting. Don't get into the illusion if it works for you, it would equally work for your visitors. You are creating content for your visitors more than for yourself. Keep the problems of the visitors in your mind and mention how your content can be a good fit for solving their problems. This will boost your SEO and you turn out to be a brand in your respective niche.
Unique Meta Description for Every Post
It is important to note that every blog post you create must come with a unique meta description. Don't imitate the description you have written for other posts. If you do, you'll be making difficult for the search engines to rank your page for the specific query. It's true some pages are related to each other and convey the same idea in one way or the other, but you must separate each page in terms of main keywords and the meta description.
Yoast Tool to Check Word Count
Yoast SEO tool is quite handy to check the length of the meta description. As you start writing the meta description in Yoast plugin, the line appearing under meta description remains green unless you cross the words recommended by the plugin. Stop writing the words before the red line turns yellow. It is important to note that Yoast recommends less number of characters in the descriptions as compared to the characters recommended by Google's recently introduced strategy about meta description. Yoast prefers to keep the length within 160 characters, while Google allows keeping the length as long as 300 characters.
Compare your Meta Description
Best way to stand out from the crowd is by analyzing and comparing your meta description with the competitor in your field. This will help you curate and optimize the description that works best for you. Comparing your content with others gives you a benefit of analyzing content and helps you come with more impressive ideas that make your description unique and explicitly relevant to the main topic.
Include CTA in the Description
The text in the description plays the same role as a graphical ad for your marketing campaign. We can call it an ad-text where you can convince the visitors to click on your webpage. If you running a business, it is advised to add a call to action or some offers at the end of the description. This will make your content enticing and provoke the visitors to click on your webpage. Still, don't forget to keep your meta description sweet, short and relevant to the certain query.

Meta Description Exceptions

Google always strives to keep their visitors' demands on the top and provide the most relevant information. It comes with an advanced algorithm where sometimes it replaces the description given by the webmaster because it thinks the written summary doesn't resonate with the search query. It is a good practice to write a meta description for your webpage every time. This makes it easy for the search engines to target your page for the specific query. This works for most of the pages involving short-term keywords where you can easily predict and add the relevant meta description for your page. However, things don't work in the same manner when you intend to target long tail keywords. Writing a meta description for long tail keywords is tricky where you need to cover every aspect of the query pertaining to relevant searches done by the visitors. It is okay to leave the meta description for long tail keyword and allow the Google to pull out the suitable description for your page where it shows the main keywords supported by the surrounding data of the webpage.

Final Thought

The meta description is the first thing appears on the SERP before visitors makes a final decision to click on your link. Compelling and enticing meta descriptions come with more click-through rate which ultimately helps boost your business reputation. Following things, you must consider while you are writing a meta description.
  • Must be relevant
  • Contains the main keyword
  • Triggers emotions and solves problems
  • Compare your description with others but don't copy them
  • Not more than 300 characters
  • Must not identical for two blog posts
  • You can write description anywhere between 50 to 300 as long you succeed in conveying the main idea
  • Contains CTA or Offers
  • Okay to skip meta description for long tail keywords
That's all for today. I hope you got a clear idea of how you can write an amazing description that converts. In the next article, we cover how to structure blog post URL.
