Record the board, image, kernel, PRU toolchain and example revision. Check which PRU management method the current image supports. Instructions written for an older interface should not be mixed with a newer remoteproc setup without understanding the required changes.

Compare enabled device-tree settings, firmware paths and any resource table expected by the loading framework. Review kernel logs and the remote-processor state. Start with a current minimal example for that image before porting the older application's communication layer.

Preserve the previous working image and document the successful new setup. Test pin behavior and Linux-to-PRU communication after migration, including stop and restart. An image that boots Linux successfully has not yet demonstrated compatibility with the application's real-time subsystem.
