Separate lifecycle status from an immediate failure or discontinuation claim. The existing controller does not stop functioning because its selection guidance changes. For a new design, compare currently recommended alternatives against availability, support horizon, required peripherals and tool support. Confirm procurement details directly rather than inferring them from one status label.

Migration needs more than matching pin count. Compare supply limits, oscillator options, reset behavior, programming interface, pin functions and peripheral registers. Review configuration bits and startup code carefully. A similar part number or package does not guarantee binary, electrical or firmware compatibility.

For a maintained legacy project, archive the working toolchain, programmer setup and test procedure. For a new revision, budget time for a small migration prototype and regression tests around timing and analog behavior. An educational tutorial can still explain the older device while clearly distinguishing that learning exercise from a current component recommendation.
