A timing exception changes what the tool checks; it does not insert safe crossing logic or alter the functional protocol. Identify the exact startpoints, endpoints and clock relationship. Confirm why normal timing analysis is inappropriate for that path.

For asynchronous crossings, pair appropriate constraints with the correct CDC circuit. Review exception scope and precedence, including whether a broad clock-group rule overrides a more specific requirement. Keep synchronous paths timed unless their exclusion has a documented functional justification.

#4

Inspect unconstrained paths, clock-interaction reports and CDC findings alongside the timing summary. Narrow exceptions to their intended scope and review them after design changes. A passing report is meaningful only when the constraints accurately describe the hardware's required behavior.
