WHAT IS IT?
The ceramic disc capacitor, the small orange part on nearly every board, drawn at true scale: a 5.5
mm disc with two legs 5 mm apart, printing its own three-digit code. It is a true analog part:
  * A capacitance behind a small series resistance (ESR), so it charges and discharges on the real
curves in any circuit. It has no polarity.
  * The code on the disc follows the value: 104 for 100 nF, 473 for 47 nF, and so on from 10 pF to 1
    uF in the E6 series.
  * A small bar under the code shows the charge at Run.
  * Too much voltage cracks it, and it opens. Fit a new part from the pop-up, or press Stop and Run.
  * Click it at Run for its pop-up: the code explained, the charge, the energy, the live values,
graphs, an event log and a check page. Its chips step the value through the E6 series and
    discharge it by hand.
The body is drawn as on the real part and to true scale against our Arduino.
The TEP signature and the pop-up are TEP additions.

ONE DEVICE (search "CAPCERAMIC" in Pick Devices):
CAPCERAMICTEP "Ceramic Capacitor V1.0" in TEPCERAMIC.LIB (category Capacitors > Ceramic Disc),
prefix C, model TEPCERAMIC.DLL. Pins 1 and 2; either way round.

THE POP-UP
Click the part at Run. It stays closed until then (you can turn "Open the panel at Run" on in its
Settings page). Tabs:
Capacitor the state (EMPTY, CHARGING, HOLDING, DISCHARGING, OVER VOLTAGE, BURST), the disc with
its code, the code explained, what it holds, and eight live values. The toolbar: E6 down, E6 up,
    Discharge, New part.
Graphs the live values over the last 2, 6 or 15 s. Live / Freeze.
Event log every change and warning; filters All / Changes / Warnings, Pause, Clear
Check what the part is doing and what to look at, each with a verdict (green = fine, amber
    = check, red = wrong)
Settings theme, text size, open at Run, window size
Help report a bug, suggest a feature, article, updates, donate, forum; Copy diagnostics
    for a bug report

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 31 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an A4 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0).
What the runs showed (the model's own numbers and the sketch's monitor):
  * The project loads and starts cleanly. SW1, bare: 8 and 9 edges a press at D2, so its LED lands
anywhere. SW2 with C1 100 nF: exactly 1 edge at D3 on each of 5 presses, though its contact
still made 7 to 9 edges a change.
  * C1 held at 4.89 V with SW2 down (R3 220 ohm and the 10k pull-down make a small divider). The
peak current into C1 was 19.4 mA, inside the 50 mA of the switch.
  * E6 up took C1 to 150 nF at Run, and the disc printed 154.
  * The pop-up: Capacitor, Graphs, Event log, Check - all four pages followed the run.

INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPCERAMIC.LIB, TEPBUTTON.LIB, TEPRESISTOR.LIB,
TEPLED5MM.LIB and our Arduino library V4.0, ArduinoV4TEP.LIB, with the ARDUINO UNO V4.0 used by the
demo) to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPCERAMIC.DLL, TEPBUTTON.DLL, TEPRESISTOR.DLL, TEPLED5MM.DLL and TEPARDUINO.DLL from
"Proteus Model Files" to the MODELS folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS).
4. Delete TEPCERAMIC.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there (Proteus makes a new index).
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "CAPCERAMIC".

RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\Ceramic-Hardware-Debounce-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" (an A4 sheet) - keep the .hex
file and the DLLs beside the project.
ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running Ceramic_Debounce_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built in (window
  "TEP Arduino UNO - ARD1").
  SW1, R1: a bare button: +5V, the switch, D2, and a 10k pull-down.
  SW2, R3, R2, C1: the same button with hardware debouncing: +5V, the switch, 220 ohm, D3, then a
  10k pull-down and a 100 nF capacitor to GND.
D1, D2: LEDs on D8 and D9 through 220 ohm. A rising edge on a button toggles its LED.
  1. Press Run, then click the cap of SW1 a few times. The monitor counts many edges for a press.
  2. Click the cap of SW2 a few times. One press is one edge, and its LED toggles every time.
  3. Click the small dot on a button, or click C1, for the pop-ups.
Closed the monitor? Click the UNO's USB port.

WIRING (the same in Proteus and on a real board)
  +5V - switch - 220 ohm - pin ; pin - 10k - GND ; pin - 100 nF - GND
The capacitor holds the pin up through the gaps of the bounce. The 220 ohm keeps its rush of current
off the switch.
REAL HARDWARE:
 * Put a 100 nF ceramic beside the supply pins of every chip, with short leads.
 * Keep the voltage well under the rating. Common X7R and Y5V parts lose much of their value at
   their rated voltage.
 * Check the code and the tolerance letter: 104K is 100 nF at 10 %, 104Z is 100 nF at +80 / -20 %.

THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (Ceramic_Debounce_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)
There are no commands. The sketch prints a line after each burst of edges.
EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
Ceramic Capacitor demo - The Engineering Projects
  Press SW1, then SW2

PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
  Capacitance 100n, 4n7, 22p, 1u (a bare number is in uF)
  Voltage rating, V 50
  Series resistance (ESR), ohm 0.05
Printed code while stopped picks the code shown on the disc; Run sets it from the Capacitance
  box
Every run starts again from the properties.

LINKS.INI (OPTIONAL)
The Help page cards of the pop-up open web pages. To point them somewhere else without a new DLL,
put a text file named links.ini next to TEPCERAMIC.DLL with lines KEY=URL, for example:
  ARTICLE=https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/...
Keys: WEBSITE, FORUM, BUG_REPORT, FEATURE_REQUEST, ARTICLE, USER_GUIDE,
UPDATE_CHECK, DONATE. Only http:// and https:// links are used; lines starting
with # are comments.

TROUBLESHOOTING
* The code on the disc does not match the value: press Run once. The model sets the code from the
Capacitance box, to the nearest E6 value.
* BURST: it saw too much voltage. Fix the circuit, then New part.
* SW2 still gives more than one edge: the bounce property of the button is longer than this
capacitor can hold. Use 220 nF.
* The pop-up does not open: click the part at Run (it stays closed until then).
* The part is not simulated: TEPCERAMIC.DLL is missing from MODELS and from the project folder. No
UNO / no monitor window: TEPARDUINO.DLL is missing, or click the UNO's USB port.

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The model (TEPCERAMIC.DLL), the symbols and artwork, the other parts of ours in the demo and the
  Arduino Library V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, with its built-in TEP Serial Monitor
Advance) are made by The Engineering Projects. The models use only standard Windows libraries; no
  Visual C++ redistributable is needed.
The C++ source code is not included.
* Arduino UNO V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, our Arduino Library V4.0 - its
microcontroller is Proteus's own AVR model): The Engineering Projects,
  https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/2026/10/arduino-uno-library-for-proteus-v40.html
* The .hex file is built from the demo sketch and the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6, which includes
LGPL-licensed code; its source code is available at
  https://github.com/arduino/ArduinoCore-avr/tree/1.8.6
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino is a trademark of Arduino SA.
This library is not made or endorsed by Arduino or Labcenter.

REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit the sketch, open
Arduino Code\Ceramic_Debounce_Demo\Ceramic_Debounce_Demo.ino, select Arduino Uno and use Sketch >
Export Compiled Binary. Replace the simulation's .hex with the exported HEX. The sketch needs 3,442
bytes of flash and 217 bytes of RAM.

MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the capacitance, the ESR, a very slow self-discharge, the charge and stored energy,
heating under over voltage, breaking and opening. The printed code follows the value.
Not modelled: the loss of value with voltage and temperature, the part's inductance, the tolerance.

How to add a library in Proteus 8

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP

How do I download Ceramic Capacitor Library for Proteus V1.0?

Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.

What is inside the archive?

Ceramic Capacitor Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 19 files (2.1 MB, 4.6 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 19 files.

What should I do if the download does not start?

Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.

Is this file free?

Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.

How do I check that the file arrived complete?

Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, edec73b2ab39f4076c608c8baea29b16cfaef8668616428add7aa420f0e17557. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "ceramic-capacitor-tep-v1-0-313102f44a44484e9356fc67663a9091.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "ceramic-capacitor-tep-v1-0-313102f44a44484e9356fc67663a9091.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.

Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?

No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.

Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?

Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.

Which Proteus version does the library need?

The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.

How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?

Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
