WHAT IS IT?
The KCD1 rocker switch, drawn at true scale from the front: a black bezel 15 x 21 mm, a red rocker
marked I and O, and two legs. It is a true analog part:
* SPST: leg 1 joins leg 2 through a small contact resistance when the I side is pressed, and the
contact is open on O.
* Click it at Run and the rocker tips over. The sheet keeps that position after Stop, and you can
pick it while stopped.
* The contact bounces for a few ms as it closes, and the pop-up records the peak current, so the
rush into a capacitor shows.
* The small dot on the bezel opens the pop-up: the contact, the live values, graphs, an event log
and a check page.
The body is drawn as on the real part and to true scale against our Arduino.
The TEP signature and the pop-up are TEP additions.
ONE DEVICE (search "SWITCHROCKER" in Pick Devices):
SWITCHROCKERTEP "Rocker Switch V1.0" in TEPROCKER.LIB (category Switches and Relays > Switches),
prefix SW, model TEPROCKER.DLL. Pins 1 and 2.
THE POP-UP
Click the small dot at Run; a click anywhere else on the switch tips it over. Tabs:
Switch ON or OFF, the switch, the contact with the live path, and eight live values. The
toolbar: Flip.
Graphs the live values over the last 2, 6 or 15 s. Live / Freeze.
Event log every change and warning; filters All / Changes / Warnings, Pause, Clear
Check what the part is doing and what to look at, each with a verdict (green = fine, amber
= check, red = wrong)

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 31 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an A4 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0).
What the runs showed (the model's own numbers and the sketch's monitor):
* The project loads and starts cleanly with the rocker on O, the bus at 0 V and the LED dark.
* Three times ON and OFF: the bus rose past 4.4 V in 25 to 26 ms, and took 1666 to 1667 ms to fall
below 0.5 V. The LED lit at 12.6 mA and the switch carried 17.4 mA.
* The rush into the empty 1000 uF capacitor peaked at 473 mA through the contact, against its 6 A
rating, with R1 (10 ohm) in the way.
* Each flip made 4 or 5 edges as the contact landed, settled in 3.05 to 3.56 ms, and the rocker's
tilt showed on the sheet at Run.
* The pop-up: Switch, Graphs, Event log, Check - all four pages followed the run.
INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPROCKER.LIB, TEPRESISTOR.LIB, TEPLED5MM.LIB,
TEPELECTRO.LIB and our Arduino library V4.0, ArduinoV4TEP.LIB, with the ARDUINO UNO V4.0 used by the
demo) to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPROCKER.DLL, TEPRESISTOR.DLL, TEPLED5MM.DLL, TEPELECTRO.DLL and TEPARDUINO.DLL from
"Proteus Model Files" to the MODELS folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS).
4. Delete TEPROCKER.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there (Proteus makes a new index).
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "SWITCHROCKER".
RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\Rocker-Switch-Power-Bus-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" (an A4 sheet) - keep the .hex file
and the DLLs beside the project.
ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running Power_Bus_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built in (window "TEP
Arduino UNO - ARD1").
SW1: the main power switch: leg 1 on +5V, leg 2 to R1.
R1: 10 ohm, the soft start: it limits the rush into C1.
C1: 1000 uF on the BUS, the store of a small machine.
R3: 1k from the BUS to GND, the bleeder: it empties C1 after the switch opens.
D1: a green LED on the BUS through R2 (220 ohm).
A0: watches the BUS through R4 (10k). The sketch only times the bus: it does not control the
power.
1. Press Run. The rocker is on O and the LED is dark.
2. Click SW1. The LED lights, and the monitor says how long the bus took to rise.
3. Click it again. The LED fades out, and the monitor says how long the bus took to fall.
Closed the monitor? Click the UNO's USB port.
WIRING (the same in Proteus and on a real board)
+5V - 1 ; 2 - the load : a power switch
2 - R (a few ohm) - big capacitor : a soft start for the rush
big capacitor - R (1k or more) - GND : a bleeder
REAL HARDWARE:
* A KCD1 is rated about 6 A at 250 V AC and 10 A at 125 V AC. Read the data sheet of yours, and
expect less on DC.
* The model warns at 6 A on the Check page. It does not know your voltage.
* On the mains, use a rocker made for it, in a proper box, with the lugs covered. Leave mains
wiring to a qualified person.
* It snaps into a 13 x 19 mm cut-out in a panel.
THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (Power_Bus_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)
There are no commands. The sketch prints a line when the bus rises and when it falls.
EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
Rocker Switch power bus - The Engineering Projects
Press the I side of SW1
Power on 1: the bus rose in 26 ms
PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
Contact resistance, ohm 0.02
Contact bounce, ms 3
Position while stopped OFF or ON
Every run starts again from the properties.
LINKS.INI (OPTIONAL)
The Help page cards of the pop-up open web pages. To point them somewhere else without a new DLL,
put a text file named links.ini next to TEPROCKER.DLL with lines KEY=URL, for example:
ARTICLE=https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/...
Keys: WEBSITE, FORUM, BUG_REPORT, FEATURE_REQUEST, ARTICLE, USER_GUIDE,
UPDATE_CHECK, DONATE. Only http:// and https:// links are used; lines starting
with # are comments.
TROUBLESHOOTING
* A click opens the pop-up: you clicked the small dot. Click the rocker to tip it over.
* The LED stays lit for a while after OFF: that is C1 emptying through R3 and the LED, as it should.
* The bus never falls to 0 V: check R3, the bleeder.
* The Peak current tile is high: a capacitor straight after the switch pulls a rush. Add a few ohms
in series.
* The part is not simulated: TEPROCKER.DLL is missing from MODELS and from the project folder. No
UNO / no monitor window: TEPARDUINO.DLL is missing, or click the UNO's USB port.

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The model (TEPROCKER.DLL), the symbols and artwork, the other parts of ours in the demo and the
Arduino Library V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, with its built-in TEP Serial Monitor
Advance) are made by The Engineering Projects. The models use only standard Windows libraries; no
Visual C++ redistributable is needed.
The C++ source code is not included.
* Arduino UNO V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, our Arduino Library V4.0 - its
microcontroller is Proteus's own AVR model): The Engineering Projects,
https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/2026/10/arduino-uno-library-for-proteus-v40.html
* The .hex file is built from the demo sketch and the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6, which includes
LGPL-licensed code; its source code is available at
https://github.com/arduino/ArduinoCore-avr/tree/1.8.6
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino is a trademark of Arduino SA.
This library is not made or endorsed by Arduino or Labcenter.
REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit the sketch, open
Arduino Code\Power_Bus_Demo\Power_Bus_Demo.ino, select Arduino Uno and use Sketch > Export Compiled
Binary. Replace the simulation's .hex with the exported HEX. The sketch needs 3,222 bytes of flash
and 209 bytes of RAM.
MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the contact resistance, contact bounce, the peak current and the current rating on the
Check page.
Not modelled: the arc on a heavy load, wear, the voltage rating, a lamp inside the rocker.

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP
How do I download Rocker Switch Library for Proteus V1.0?
Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.
What is inside the archive?
Rocker Switch Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 19 files (2.1 MB, 4.6 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 19 files.
What should I do if the download does not start?
Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.
Is this file free?
Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.
How do I check that the file arrived complete?
Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, a579c8351de9ab863a63a8d6da6bc52db6a5d294fefcb77ae6d985760523c962. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "rocker-switch-tep-v1-0-da6ac67d45414661aac4f50d1b457486.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "rocker-switch-tep-v1-0-da6ac67d45414661aac4f50d1b457486.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.
Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?
No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.
Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?
Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.
Which Proteus version does the library need?
The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.
How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?
Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
Members skip the wait. Log in or join TEP.
