Total: 2.72 MB (unzipped). The C++ source code of the models is not included.

WHAT IS IT?
White ceramic cement (wirewound) resistors, drawn at true scale with axial leads and the rating and
value printed on the side. Two sizes:
  * 5 W: 22 x 9.5 mm. 10 W: 48 x 9.5 mm.
  * Type a value (10, 4R7, 0R47, 1k) and the print follows: 5W 10RJ, 5W 4R7J, 5W 0R47J, 5W 1K0J. The
    letter is the decimal point; J is 5 %.
  * The body heats with the power it burns: about 275 C at the full rating. Over it, the body GLOWS,
    and past 700 C the wire inside opens, until New part or the next Run.
  * Click it at Run for the pop-up: the print read out, volts, amps, watts, temperature, graphs, an
    event log and a check page.
The body is drawn as on the real part and to true scale against our Arduino.
The TEP signature and the pop-up are TEP additions.

TWO DEVICES (search "RESISTORPOWER" in Pick Devices):
  RESISTORPOWER5WTEP    "Power Resistor 5 W V1.0" in TEPPOWERRES.LIB (Resistors > Power Resistors),
  prefix R, model TEPPOWERRES.DLL. Pins 1 and 2.
  RESISTORPOWER10WTEP   "Power Resistor 10 W V1.0" in TEPPOWERRES.LIB (Resistors > Power Resistors),
  prefix R, model TEPPOWERRES.DLL. Pins 1 and 2.

THE POP-UP
Click the resistor at Run. Tabs:
    Resistor the print read out, and eight live values. The toolbar: E12 down, E12 up, the
    tolerance, the power rating, New part.
    Graphs the live values over the last 2, 6 or 15 s. Live / Freeze.
    Event log every change and warning; filters All / Changes / Warnings, Pause, Clear
    Check what the part is doing and what to look at, each with a verdict (green = fine, amber
    = check, red = wrong)

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 31 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an A4 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0).
What the runs showed (the model's own numbers and the sketch's monitor):
  * The project loads and starts cleanly; the bodies print 5W 10RJ (R1), 5W 0R47J (R2) and 10W 4R7J
    (R3).
  * At 10R the load carried 477 mA and burnt 2.28 W at 121 C; the sketch read 478 mA through the
    0R47 shunt.
  * Stepped down the E12 values with the pop-up's chip, the print followed (8R2, 6R8 ... 2R2) and
    the monitor printed each step; from 3R9 the load was over its 5 W.
  * At 2R2 the load burnt 7.71 W at 1.87 A: the body passed 290 C and glowed, at about 400 C. The
    shunt carried 1.65 W at 104 C, the 10 W heater 5.31 W at 155 C.
  * The pop-up: Resistor, Graphs, Event log, Check - all four pages followed the run.

INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPPOWERRES.LIB and our Arduino library V4.0,
ArduinoV4TEP.LIB, with the ARDUINO UNO V4.0 used by the demo) to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for
example:
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
   (use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPPOWERRES.DLL and TEPARDUINO.DLL from "Proteus Model Files" to the MODELS folder
(...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS).
4. Delete TEPPOWERRES.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there (Proteus makes a new index).
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "RESISTORPOWER".

RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\Power-Resistor-Dummy-Load-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" (an A4 sheet) - keep the .hex
file and the DLLs beside the project.
  ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running Dummy_Load_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built in (window "TEP
  Arduino UNO - ARD1").
  R1:     the load, 5 W, 10R, from +5V to the shunt node (A0).
  R2:     the shunt, 5 W, 0R47, from A0 to GND. A0 reads I x 0.47 ohm.
  R3:     a heater, 10 W, 4R7, across +5V, for comparison.
  1. Press Run. The monitor prints the current and the power in the load and the shunt.
  2. Click R1 and step it down with E12 down to 2R2. The power passes 5 W, and the body glows.
Closed the monitor? Click the UNO's USB port.

WIRING (the same in Proteus and on a real board)
  +5V - load - shunt - GND ; the shunt's top to A0 : measure a current with a small resistor
REAL HARDWARE:
 * A cement resistor runs hot by design: at its full rating the body is near 275 C. Never touch it,
   and keep it off the board.
 * Keep plastic, cables and the board itself away from it, and leave air round it.
 * Use about half the rating for a long life.
 * A wirewound resistor has some inductance: avoid it at high frequency.

THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (Dummy_Load_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)
There are no commands. The sketch prints the current, and the power in the load and the shunt, when
they change and every 10 s.
EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
  Power Resistor dummy load - The Engineering Projects
  I = 477 mA, load 2.28 W, shunt 0.11 W

PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)

Every run starts again from the properties.

LINKS.INI (OPTIONAL)
The Help page cards of the pop-up open web pages. To point them somewhere else without a new DLL,
put a text file named links.ini next to TEPPOWERRES.DLL with lines KEY=URL, for example:
  ARTICLE=https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/...
Keys: WEBSITE, FORUM, BUG_REPORT, FEATURE_REQUEST, ARTICLE, USER_GUIDE,
UPDATE_CHECK, DONATE. Only http:// and https:// links are used; lines starting
with # are comments.

TROUBLESHOOTING
* The body turned dark and stopped conducting: it burnt out. Click New part, or use a bigger rating.
* The value label beside the part still shows the old value: that label is what you typed. The print
  on the body follows the live value.
* The stopped print differs from the value: the Check page says which Print while stopped to pick.
* The part is not simulated: TEPPOWERRES.DLL is missing from MODELS and from the project folder. No
  UNO / no monitor window: TEPARDUINO.DLL is missing, or click the UNO's USB port.

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The model (TEPPOWERRES.DLL), the symbols and artwork, the other parts of ours in the demo and the
  Arduino Library V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, with its built-in TEP Serial Monitor
  Advance) are made by The Engineering Projects. The models use only standard Windows libraries; no
  Visual C++ redistributable is needed.
  The C++ source code is not included.
* Arduino UNO V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, our Arduino Library V4.0 - its
  microcontroller is Proteus's own AVR model): The Engineering Projects,
  https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/2026/10/arduino-uno-library-for-proteus-v40.html
* The .hex file is built from the demo sketch and the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6, which includes
  LGPL-licensed code; its source code is available at
  https://github.com/arduino/ArduinoCore-avr/tree/1.8.6
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino is a trademark of Arduino SA.
  This library is not made or endorsed by Arduino or Labcenter.

REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit the sketch, open
Arduino Code\Dummy_Load_Demo\Dummy_Load_Demo.ino, select Arduino Uno and use Sketch > Export
Compiled Binary. Replace the simulation's .hex with the exported HEX. The sketch needs 5,222 bytes
of flash and 221 bytes of RAM.

MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the resistance, the print, the body's heating, the glow, the overload and the burn-out.
Not modelled: the wire's inductance, the temperature coefficient, the heat into nearby parts.

    Power Resistor Library for Proteus: 5 W and 10 W Cement Resistors explains every connection and setting in order; keep it open beside the files while you build.

How to add a library in Proteus 8

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP

How do I download Power Resistor Library for Proteus V1.0?

Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.

What is inside the archive?

Power Resistor Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 10 files (1.2 MB, 2.7 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 10 files.

What should I do if the download does not start?

Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.

Is this file free?

Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.

How do I check that the file arrived complete?

Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 4e0748ee78df2ea89a8309123d1bfb425985b44f3bc991bdcc90249e0e09276f. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "power-resistor-tep-v1-0-e1dad53fadb64d96a9ebcf3422913bc9.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "power-resistor-tep-v1-0-e1dad53fadb64d96a9ebcf3422913bc9.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.

Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?

No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.

Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?

Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.

Which Proteus version does the library need?

The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.

How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?

Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
