WHAT IS IT?
A simulation model of the TYJ50 (50TYZ class) permanent-magnet synchronous gear
motor - the 49 mm "turntable motor" of microwave ovens, display stands, fan
oscillators, grills, curtain drives and timers: 230 V AC, 4 W class, 5 RPM at
50 Hz and 6 RPM at 60 Hz, about 4 kg.cm on its D shaft. Our own model:
* The coil between L and N (two leads, either way round) is in the circuit
with its resistance and inductance: 7.5 kohm and 30 H at 230 V - about
19 mA, 2.7 W, a power factor of about 0.6. The 120 V, 24 V and 12 V
versions (property VOLTAGE) have the same coil scaled to their voltage.
Any AC source, relay contact or triac drives it.
* Every cycle of the supply is measured: the frequency, the RMS voltage and
current, the real power and the power factor; the current lags the
voltage (the pop-up draws both).
* A synchronous motor: a 16-pole magnet rotor locks to the mains (375 RPM at
50 Hz) behind a 75:1 gearbox - exactly 5 RPM at 50 Hz, 6 RPM at 60 Hz,
whatever the load (up to its pull-out torque) and the voltage.
* It starts within a few cycles from 80 % of its rated voltage (184 V for
the 230 V motor), runs down to 65 % (150 V), locks to 40 - 70 Hz. Below
that, or with a load above its pull-out torque (4 kg.cm at the rated
voltage, less at a lower voltage), it does not turn - it hums. On DC it
only holds the rotor and the coil heats.
* The direction: the common type (property DIRECTION AUTO, the "CW/CCW"
motor) starts either way - it depends on where in the cycle the power
arrives and where the rotor's magnets came to rest - and reverses when it
meets an obstacle. The CW and CCW types have a one-way cam: they always
start their own way and hum against an obstacle.
* The obstacle: the pop-up's Block chip or a click on the turntable on the
sheet; a load on the shaft: property LOAD (kg.cm) or the pop-up's load
chips.
The symbol shows the motor from its shaft end: the mounting plate with its two
ears and their holes, the 49 mm steel can, the gearbox cover with its rivets,
the D shaft, and the two red leads to the pins L and N. At Run the turntable
disc on the shaft turns to the output shaft's angle and a red stop shows an
obstacle. The plate, the AC LED (green: running, amber: humming or DC, off: no
supply), the turntable disc, the rating line and the strip under the plate
(SPEED, SUPPLY, CURRENT, OPEN PANEL) are TEP additions; the real motor has none
of them.

factor, state, direction, type); the coil's voltage and

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 29 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an
A3 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0 with its built-in monitor, our 1-channel relay
module - its pop-up version, from its own library - and Proteus's ALTERNATOR as
the mains, 325 V peak (230 V rms) 50 Hz; all pop-ups open). What the runs
showed:
* The project loads and starts cleanly: the relay is off - "OFF - NO SUPPLY
ON THE COIL".
* "on": "AC ON - 229 V 50.0 Hz, 18.7 mA, 2.74 W (power factor 0.64)",
"RUNNING CCW at 5.0 RPM - locked to 50.0 Hz (start 1)"; the turntable
turns, the AC LED green, the current lagging the voltage in the pop-up.
* Block: "BLOCKED - the turntable hit an obstacle: the rotor bounced back,
now CW".
* "off" and "on" again: "STOPPED after 0.03 turns of the output shaft",
then "RUNNING CCW ... (start 2)".
* The 5 kg.cm load: "STALLED - the 5.0 kg.cm load is above the 4.0 kg.cm it
pulls at 230 V: it hums"; the AC LED amber, "0.0 RPM HUM" on the strip.
With the load off it starts again.
* "run 3": on for 3 s, then "Motor OFF - the timer is done". "cycle 2 1":
2 s on, 1 s off; the starts went CW, CW, CCW, CW - either way, as the real
motor does.
* The relay module's own pop-up counts the operations and shows the
contact.
Plus automatic checks on a PC, 0 failed: 25 on the motor (230 V 50 Hz: 5 RPM,
19 mA, 2.7 W, power factor 0.62; 10 s = 300 deg; the start direction from the
phase and the rest pole; a restart at the same phase turns the other way;
60 Hz = 6 RPM; 150 V hums, 190 V starts, 140 V falls out of step; 3 kg.cm
runs, 5 kg.cm stalls, 3 kg.cm at 190 V stalls; DC holds; AUTO reverses at an
obstacle, a one-way CW type hums and runs again when it is gone; the 120 V
coil at 120 V 60 Hz takes 32.5 mA; a leaking open contact is not a supply);
2 on the pop-up pages rendered; the demo project read back from disk (63
checks: devices, pins, wires, labels, no wire through a part, no crossing).
INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPTYJ50.LIB and our Arduino
library V4.0, ArduinoV4TEP.LIB) to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for
example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(on some PCs: C:\ProgramData\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\
LIBRARY - use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPTYJ50.DLL and TEPARDUINO.DLL from "Proteus Model Files" to the
MODELS folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS). The demo's relay module
is NOT in this package: install our Relay Module library the same way (its
own ZIP - see IMPORTANT LINKS): TEPRELAY.LIB and TEPRELAY.DLL.
4. Delete TEPTYJ50.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there.
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "TYJ50".
RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\TYJ50-Synchronous-Motor-Relay-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" - keep
the .hex file and the DLLs beside the project (with the relay library
installed).
ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running Turntable_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built
in (window "TEP Arduino UNO - ARD1").
RLY1: the 1-channel relay module (pop-up version, our Relay Module library):
IN on D7 (LOW = ON), VCC on 5V, GND - by net labels.
V1: Proteus's ALTERNATOR: AMP 325V, FREQ 50Hz (230 V rms 50 Hz); its +
on the relay's COM, its - to ground.
M1: the TYJ50: L on the relay's NO, N to ground.
1. Press Run. The monitor and the two pop-ups open (move them aside).
2. Type in the monitor and press Send: on, off, run 10, cycle 6 3, status.
3. Click the turntable: an obstacle - the AUTO motor reverses. Put a load on
the shaft from the pop-up's toolbar (1 - 5 kg.cm): above 4 kg.cm it hums.
4. Double-click V1 and set FREQ 60Hz: 6 RPM. Set AMP 150V: below 80 % it
does not start.
5. The motor's pop-up: Motor, Graphs, Event log, Check.
WIRING (the same idea on a real board - MAINS: see REAL HARDWARE)
Relay module Arduino UNO
IN D7 (LOW = the relay ON)
VCC, GND 5V, GND
COM the mains live (through a fuse)
NO the motor's L
The motor's N the mains neutral
In the sketch (no library needed):
digitalWrite(RELAY, LOW); // the relay ON: the motor runs
digitalWrite(RELAY, HIGH); // the relay OFF
REAL HARDWARE:
* MAINS VOLTAGE CAN KILL. Do the wiring with the plug out, insulate every
mains connection, put the relay board in a closed box, fuse the live wire.
If you are not sure, use the 24 V or 12 V AC version with a transformer.
* A relay or an optotriac + triac switches it; it needs no driver - a
synchronous motor's speed is set by the mains frequency.
* The CW/CCW type starts either way: fine for a turntable or a display, not
for a mechanism that must move one way - use a CW or CCW type then.
THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (Turntable_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)

EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
TYJ50 Turntable demo - The Engineering Projects
Relay module: IN on D7 (LOW = ON); COM / NO switch 230 V AC 50 Hz to the TYJ50 (5 RPM).
Commands: on | off | run 10 | cycle 6 3 | status | help
on
Motor ON - the relay closes, 230 V on the motor
PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
VOLTAGE the rated voltage: 230, 120, 24 or 12 (V AC; default 230)
DIRECTION AUTO (the CW/CCW type: either way, reverses at an obstacle), CW or
CCW (one-way; default AUTO)
LOAD a load on the shaft in kg.cm (default 0; it pulls 4 kg.cm at its
rated voltage)
Every run starts again from the properties.
TROUBLESHOOTING
* OFF - NO SUPPLY: the relay is off (IN HIGH), L / N not connected, or the AC
source is off.
* HUMMING: too little voltage (under 80 % to start), a frequency outside 40 -
70 Hz, or a load above its torque - the Check page says which.
* DC: a synchronous motor needs AC; a DC supply only heats it.
* It turns the wrong way: the AUTO type picks its direction at each start -
set DIRECTION CW or CCW (a one-way motor).
* The simulation will not start ("no DC path to ground"): tie the AC source's
other side (and the motor's N) to ground.
* The part is not simulated: TEPTYJ50.DLL is missing from MODELS and from the
project folder. No relay: install our Relay Module library (TEPRELAY.LIB /
.DLL). No UNO / no monitor window: TEPARDUINO.DLL, or click the UNO's USB
port.
* The pop-up does not appear: click OPEN PANEL on the strip, or turn "Open the
panel at Run" on its Settings page back on.

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The motor model (TEPTYJ50.DLL), the symbol and artwork and the Arduino
Library V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL) are made by The Engineering
Projects. The model is an independent implementation written from the typical
data of TYJ50 / 50TYZ permanent-magnet synchronous gear motors. The models use
only standard Windows libraries; no Visual C++ redistributable is needed.
The C++ source code is not included.
The demo's relay module, our Relay Module library (TEPRELAY.LIB /
TEPRELAY.DLL), is a separate download.
* The AC source is Proteus's own ALTERNATOR.
* The demo's .hex is built from the demo sketch and the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6,
which includes LGPL-licensed code; its source code is available at
https://github.com/arduino/ArduinoCore-avr/tree/1.8.6
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino is
a trademark of Arduino SA. This library is not made or endorsed by any motor
maker, Arduino or Labcenter.
REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit
the sketch, open Arduino Code\Turntable_Demo\Turntable_Demo.ino, select Arduino
Uno and use Sketch > Export Compiled Binary. The sketch needs 7,282 bytes of
flash (22 % of the UNO) and 285 bytes of RAM.
MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the coil (resistance and inductance), the cycle-by-cycle supply
measurement (frequency, RMS voltage and current, power, power factor), the
synchronous speed, the start and pull-out voltages, the frequency range, the
pull-out torque against a load, the random start direction and its reversal at
an obstacle (AUTO), the one-way types, DC.
How it runs: the coil is in the circuit as its backward-Euler companion over
the analog step (a conductance and a source); the analog step is held to
0.25 ms while there is a supply (80 points a 50 Hz cycle); a cycle counts only
when its period matches the previous one (a contact closing, bouncing or
opening is not a supply cycle).
Not modelled: the rotor's swing as it locks, the gear backlash, heating, the
back-EMF of the turning rotor (the current is the coil's), noise.

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP
How do I download TYJ50 Synchronous Motor Library for Proteus V1.0?
Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.
What is inside the archive?
TYJ50 Synchronous Motor Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 10 files (1.2 MB, 2.6 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 10 files.
What should I do if the download does not start?
Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.
Is this file free?
Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.
How do I check that the file arrived complete?
Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 46e47648cc256a21d86cf848d23ddecef5213004f92d8adb131f0d2d9cccab29. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "tyj50-synchronous-motor-tep-v1-0-5df736b276bb4121a16081bf0637dc02.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "tyj50-synchronous-motor-tep-v1-0-5df736b276bb4121a16081bf0637dc02.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.
Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?
No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.
Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?
Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.
Which Proteus version does the library need?
The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.
How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?
Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
Members skip the wait. Log in or join TEP.
