Hello friends, I hope you all are fine and enjoying good health. Today's tutorial, as the name shows, is on Introduction to PLC. PLC is an abbreviation of Programmable Logic Controller. Recently I worked on a project in which I have to design a Automated coffee Mixing Machine Using PLC. It worked quite good and I had a great time while working on it. After completing that project, it occurred to me that I haven't posted any tutorial on PLC. So I thought of starting this tutorial. This tutorial is not gonna cover in single post so my plan is to divide it in parts.
Today. I am gonna give an overview about PLC. We will have a look on basics i.e. what is PLC? Why we use PLC instead of microcontroller like Arduino or PIC Microcontroller? What's its adv ...
Hi friends and hope you are all very well. Today, we are going to deal with one of the most important and common problems that would be there in everyday tasks in industry and its solution. The problem is the safety of equipment and operators by preventing the machine from running under specific conditions for realizing the safety of equipment and human as well. Not only does it fulfill safety but also it is for performing the designed sequence of operation. If there is a problem, then it should be the solution for it. the solution is what so-called “Interlock”. So, what is interlock? And why do we need it? And how we can design a good interlock? Well! We may find such concerns exist in two aspects which are safety and operation sequence. In the f ...
Hi, my friends, and welcome back to enjoying together learning and practicing PLC ladder logic programming with a new project from the actual industry. Today my friends, we will continue the bottle line project to complete the capping and filling of the bottling line. As usual, we will describe the requirements as the clients ask us to do. Then we list all the inputs and outputs we will use to make our design work. Afterward, we write the ladder logic program into two sub-tasks. We make one to perform the filling and the second for the capping process. So, without further delay, buddies, let’s jump into the work.
Filling and capping project
Let me introduce the project as two processes we have been requested to implement here. We are filling bottle process in which we need to control the ...
Hi friends, I hope you are very well; today in this tutorial, we will practice conditional jumping for performing some code at the occurrence of some conditions. Like any other programming language, jumping is one of the most common approaches to transfer the execution from its sequential mode to run different processes or instructions marked by a label and bypassing the lines of codes in between the last executed transaction before the jump instruction and the labeled instruction whom the program is going to move to. The good thing about this technique is shortening the scan cycle of the program due to not running the whole program. However, using jumping techniques in coding is very dangerous. It would help if you were careful of missing some op ...
Hi friends, today we are going to learn a good technique to run multi outputs in sequence. In another word, when we have some output that is repeatedly run in sequence. In the normal or conventional technique of programming we deal with them individually or one by one which takes more effort in programming and much space of memory. So instead we can use a new technique to trigger these outputs in sequence using one instruction which will save the effort of programming and space of memory. In this article, we are going to introduce how to implement sequencer output instruction. And practice some examples with the simulator as usual. Before starting the article, we need to mention that, some controllers like Allen Bradley have sequencer output instruction and some has not like Siemens. So we ...
Hi friends, today we are going to learn one of the most important instructions in the PLC ladder which is MOVE instruction by which we can move data between different memory storage including input, output, marker, and variables. Also, data of different data types and sizes can be transferred from source to destination and source memory locations. For example data types including char, string, integer, floating, time and date can be transferred between source and destination. Memory location like input, output, and marker memory area can be acting as source or destination. Furthermore, a mask can be utilized to customize and control the part of data to be transferred between source and destination. In that move with a mask, the instruction uses a source address, a destination address, and ...
In the previous post Logical Gates in Ladder Logic for PLC, we had an overview of what is Ladder Logic programming and we have also implemented three basic Logical gates in Ladder Logic form. Today, we are gonna have a look at some complex Logical Gates in Ladder Logic for PLC. So, I hope till now you guys have basic knowledge of Ladder Logic and can implement complex logical gates in it. If you haven't read the previous post then must read because without that knowledge you won't understand this post.
In today's post we are gonna implement few complex logical gates. Its not gonna be much difficult if you have the basic concepts. I am just pointing out few important points here. While implementing any gate in ladder logic, always consider rung as ...
Hey guys! hope you are all very well. Today I come to you with a new process to learn, program, and simulate for practicing ladder logic more and more. The process we are going to implement today is a very common process that could be there in many many industries which is a silo process that aims to automate the process of filling containers or bottles with a liquid. Figure 1 shows the complete scene of the process including the system components, switches, indicators, sensors, and actuators that are integrated to make the system operate. Briefly and before going into deep details, let’s state what the system does and how it operates. Well! The system automatically fills the boxes that are traveling on the conveyor which is driven by a motor. They are filled with a liquid stored in the si ...
Hello friends, I hope you all are doing great. In today's tutorial, we are going to design logic gates in PLC Simulator. It's our 4th tutorial in Ladder Logic Programming Series. We come today to elaborate the logic gates with comprehensive details for their importance in PLC programming. you can consider logic gates as the building blocks of ladder logic programming. Like every time we start with telling what you guys are going to have after completing this session? For those who like to buy their time and calculate for feasibility, I’d like to say by completing this article, you are going to know everything about what types of logic gates, how they are designed and how they work, how you can translate the logic in your head into the logic gate a ...
Hello friends! We hope you are very well! Today we are here for complementing our knowledge with one of the most important topics in PLC programming and practice its implementation in PLC ladder logic programming. Our topic today is about counters which help us to know the production size at any time, the repetition of specific tasks and events. Many real-life situation problems need counter like garage capacity should be tracked by using counters to report how many cars are inside and if there is room for incoming cars or it's full. Another critical problem is to count the repetitive tasks and events in manufacturing. Furthermore, counting products and pieces for taking an action like performing maintenance, stop operation, turn over to next prod ...
