WHAT IS IT?
Two 5 mm LEDs for light you cannot (or can hardly) see, drawn at true scale on our 5 mm dome.
* IRLED5MM940TEP: a 940 nm infrared LED, blue-grey tinted: about 1.2 V at 20 mA, 100 mA at the
most. Its light is invisible, so the sheet hardly
changes; the pop-up shows it to the eye (nothing) and to a phone camera (a glow).
* It reads what it sends: the carrier's frequency and duty, the marks and spaces, and an NEC
remote-control frame - the 9 ms leader, the 4.5 ms
space, 32 bits LSB first (address, its inverse, command, its inverse) and the stop mark - or an
NEC repeat code.
* UVLED5MM395TEP: a 395 nm ultraviolet LED, water clear: about 3.3 V at 20 mA, 30 mA at the most,
a violet glow, with ultraviolet's cautions.
* Both: the LED junction, the glow from the current, PWM, over current and burn-out (a new part
from the pop-up).
The body is drawn as on the real part and to true scale against our Arduino.
The TEP signature and the pop-up are TEP additions.
TWO DEVICES (search "IRLED" or "UVLED" in Pick Devices):
IRLED5MM940TEP "IR LED 5 mm 940 nm V1.0" in TEPIRUV.LIB (Optoelectronics > LEDs), prefix D,
model TEPIRUV.DLL. Pins A (long leg) and K.
UVLED5MM395TEP "UV LED 5 mm 395 nm V1.0" in TEPIRUV.LIB (Optoelectronics > LEDs), prefix D,
model TEPIRUV.DLL. Pins A and K.
THE POP-UP
Click the part at Run. Tabs:
LED IR: the last frame (NEC FRAME, NEC REPEAT, ON, OFF), the LED to the eye and to a
camera, the last frame's marks on a time line with
its decoded address and command, and eight live values. UV: the state, the LED drawn
large, the right series resistor for
3.3 to 12 V, and eight live values. The toolbar: New part.
Graphs the live values over the last 2, 6 or 15 s. Live / Freeze.
Event log every change and warning; filters All / Changes / Warnings, Pause, Clear
Check what the part is doing and what to look at, each with a verdict (green = fine, amber
= check, red = wrong)

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 31 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an A4 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0).
What the runs showed (the model's own numbers and the sketch's monitor):
* The project loads and starts cleanly; both LEDs are off.
* Each tap on SW1 sent an NEC frame on the IR LED, read back by its pop-up: address 0x00 with
commands 0x45 (POWER), 0x46 (VOL+) and 0x15 (VOL-),
every inverse checked; leader about 9.0 ms + 4.5 ms; carrier 39.0 kHz at 32 % duty; 31.3 mA peak
through 100 ohm at 1.24 V.
* A tap is long enough for one NEC repeat code; holding SW1 sent a repeat code every 108 ms, each
one recognised (9 ms + 2.25 ms + a stop mark).
* Paused while it sent, the pop-up showed the LED dark to the eye and glowing to a phone camera.
* SW2 switched the UV LED on: 11.0 mA through 150 ohm at 3.13 V, a violet glow.
* The pop-up: LED, Graphs, Event log, Check - all four pages followed the run, for both LEDs.
INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPIRUV.LIB, TEPRESISTOR.LIB, TEPBUTTON.LIB and our
Arduino library V4.0, ArduinoV4TEP.LIB, with the ARDUINO UNO V4.0 used by the demo) to the LIBRARY
folder of Proteus, for example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPIRUV.DLL, TEPRESISTOR.DLL, TEPBUTTON.DLL and TEPARDUINO.DLL from "Proteus Model Files" to
the MODELS folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS).
4. Delete TEPIRUV.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there (Proteus makes a new index).
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "IRLED or UVLED".
RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\IR-UV-LED-Remote-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" (an A4 sheet) - keep the .hex file and the
DLLs beside the project.
ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running IR_Remote_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built in (window "TEP
Arduino UNO - ARD1").
D1, R1: the IR LED on D3 through 100 ohm. D2, R2: the UV LED on D9 through 150 ohm (our
resistors).
SW1, SW2: our push buttons from D4 and D5 to GND (INPUT_PULLUP).
1. Press Run. Open D1's pop-up.
2. Click SW1 (or Press on its pop-up): an NEC code - POWER, VOL+, VOL- in turn. Hold it (Hold
down) for repeat codes.
3. Click SW2: the UV LED on or off.
Closed the monitor? Click the UNO's USB port.
WIRING (the same in Proteus and on a real board)
pin - 100 ohm - IR LED - GND : about 31 mA, a pin's safe most; a transistor gives an IR LED its
full 100 mA and range
pin - 150 ohm - UV LED - GND : about 11 mA
REAL HARDWARE:
* A remote's carrier is 36 to 40 kHz (38 kHz is common); the receiver ignores steady light and
answers only to that carrier.
* Check an IR LED with a phone camera: the eye sees nothing.
* For range, drive an IR LED with a transistor at 100 mA or more, in short bursts.
* Never look into a lit UV LED from close by; it makes paper, cloth and some inks glow.
THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (IR_Remote_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)
There are no commands. SW1 sends a code (and repeat codes while held), SW2 switches the UV LED; the
sketch prints each.
EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
IR remote and UV LED - The Engineering Projects
SW1 sends a code, SW2 switches the UV LED
Sent NEC 0x00 0x45 (POWER)
held: 1 repeat code
PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
Forward voltage at 20 mA, V 1.2 (IR) or 3.3 (UV)
Maximum current, mA 100 (IR) or 30 (UV)
Every run starts again from the properties.
LINKS.INI (OPTIONAL)
The Help page cards of the pop-up open web pages. To point them somewhere else without a new DLL,
put a text file named links.ini next to TEPIRUV.DLL with lines KEY=URL, for example:
ARTICLE=https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/...
Keys: WEBSITE, FORUM, BUG_REPORT, FEATURE_REQUEST, ARTICLE, USER_GUIDE,
UPDATE_CHECK, DONATE. Only http:// and https:// links are used; lines starting
with # are comments.
TROUBLESHOOTING
* The IR LED seems dead: it is invisible - open its pop-up, or look through a phone camera.
* No NEC frame in the pop-up: the carrier or the timing is off, or the frame was cut short (the log
names a burst that was not NEC).
* The code reads wrong: the bits go LSB first; the command's inverse must make 0xFF with it.
* The UV LED is dim: it needs about 3.3 V; check the resistor for that Vf.
* The part is not simulated: TEPIRUV.DLL is missing from MODELS and from the project folder. No UNO
/ no monitor window: TEPARDUINO.DLL is missing, or click the UNO's USB port.

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The model (TEPIRUV.DLL), the symbols and artwork, the other parts of ours in the demo and the
Arduino Library V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, with its built-in TEP Serial Monitor
Advance) are made by The Engineering Projects. The models use only standard Windows libraries; no
Visual C++ redistributable is needed.
The C++ source code is not included.
* Arduino UNO V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, our Arduino Library V4.0 - its
microcontroller is Proteus's own AVR model): The Engineering Projects,
https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/2026/10/arduino-uno-library-for-proteus-v40.html
* The .hex file is built from the demo sketch and the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6, which includes
LGPL-licensed code; its source code is available at
https://github.com/arduino/ArduinoCore-avr/tree/1.8.6
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino is a trademark of Arduino SA.
This library is not made or endorsed by Arduino or Labcenter.
REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit the sketch, open
Arduino Code\IR_Remote_Demo\IR_Remote_Demo.ino, select Arduino Uno and use Sketch > Export Compiled
Binary. Replace the simulation's .hex with the exported HEX. The sketch needs 4,026 bytes of flash
and 229 bytes of RAM.
MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the LED junction, the glow, PWM, over current and burn-out; for the IR LED the carrier's
frequency and duty, marks and spaces, NEC frames
and repeat codes, the camera's view.
Not modelled: the light reaching another part (an IR receiver), the beam angle, other remote
protocols (shown as bursts).

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP
How do I download IR / UV LED Library for Proteus V1.0?
Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.
What is inside the archive?
IR / UV LED Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 16 files (1.8 MB, 4.0 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 16 files.
What should I do if the download does not start?
Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.
Is this file free?
Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.
How do I check that the file arrived complete?
Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 1f279c252729b2ef98c9de7ed5e024a261a351df60fba1340cbb0c01236e0ec1. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "ir-uv-led-tep-v1-0-25f671e62e0b418e97ae716217ce73ef.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "ir-uv-led-tep-v1-0-25f671e62e0b418e97ae716217ce73ef.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.
Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?
No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.
Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?
Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.
Which Proteus version does the library need?
The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.
How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?
Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
Members skip the wait. Log in or join TEP.
