WHAT IS IT?
Passive sounders, drawn at true scale. No oscillator inside: they sound the tone they are driven
with, on your PC's speaker too.
  * A 12 x 8.5 mm magnetic passive buzzer, side view on its green board, rated like the CUI
    CEM-1206S: 5 V (3 to 8 V), a 47 ohm coil, loudest at
2.4 kHz, 85 dB at 10 cm. Electrically its coil.
  * A 27 mm piezo disc in the style of the Murata 7BB-27-4: brass, white ceramic, a silver
electrode, red and black leads; about 20 nF, loudest at
4.6 kHz. Electrically a capacitor: a pin drives it straight away.
  * The model times the edges of the drive: frequency, note and duty, then the loudness from its
frequency response, the drive and the duty.
Plain DC gives one click and silence. The top of the buzzer and the disc's electrode move while
    they sound.
  * Click one at Run for the pop-up: the tone, the note, the loudness on its frequency curve, mute
and volume, graphs, an event log and a check page.
The body is drawn as on the real part and to true scale against our Arduino.
The TEP signature and the pop-up are TEP additions.

TWO DEVICES (search "PASSIVE" or "PIEZO" in Pick Devices):
BUZZERPASSIVETEP "Passive Buzzer V1.0" in TEPPASSIVE.LIB (Speakers & Sounders > Generic), prefix
  BZ, model TEPPASSIVE.DLL. Pins + and -.
  PIEZODISC27TEP "Piezo Disc 27mm V1.0" in TEPPASSIVE.LIB (Speakers & Sounders > Generic),
prefix BZ, model TEPPASSIVE.DLL. Pins + (red), - (black).

THE POP-UP
Click the part at Run. Tabs:
Buzzer the state (SOUNDING with the frequency and the loudness, DC, SILENT), the part drawn
large, its loudness against frequency with the
tone on it, and eight live values. The toolbar: Mute and the PC volume (10, 25, 40,
               70 %).
Graphs the live values over the last 2, 6 or 15 s. Live / Freeze.
Event log every change and warning; filters All / Changes / Warnings, Pause, Clear
Check what the part is doing and what to look at, each with a verdict (green = fine, amber
    = check, red = wrong)
Settings theme, text size, open at Run, window size

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 31 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an A4 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0).
What the runs showed (the model's own numbers and the sketch's monitor):
  * The project loads and starts cleanly. At power-up the sketch puts plain DC on BZ1 for 0.3 s:
1.41 V across the coil and no tone - the pop-up logs
one click, as a real passive buzzer gives.
  * SW1 played the chime on BZ2, the piezo disc, straight from D8: four tones, C7 2102 Hz, E7 2662
    Hz, G7 3167 Hz and C8 4204 Hz, each 0.27 s long,
14, 11, 8 and 1 dB below its loudest as they climb towards its 4.6 kHz resonance. 5.00 V peak,
    51 % duty, 0.84 mA on average.
  * SW2 swept BZ1, the magnetic buzzer, from 500 Hz to 5 kHz through R1 (100 ohm): 46 tones in 2.79
s, each one logged. At 2717 Hz it gave about
73 dB at 10 cm with 1.41 V peak on the coil and 29.9 mA at the most from the pin; the Check page
notes that 1.41 V is under its 3 V minimum.
  * Paused, the PC's sound stops with the simulation and goes on with it.
  * The pop-up: Buzzer, Graphs, Event log, Check - all four pages followed the run, for both parts.

INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPPASSIVE.LIB, TEPRESISTOR.LIB, TEPBUTTON.LIB and
our Arduino library V4.0, ArduinoV4TEP.LIB, with the ARDUINO UNO V4.0 used by the demo) to the
LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPPASSIVE.DLL, TEPRESISTOR.DLL, TEPBUTTON.DLL and TEPARDUINO.DLL from "Proteus Model Files"
to the MODELS folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS).
4. Delete TEPPASSIVE.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there (Proteus makes a new index).
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "PASSIVE or PIEZO".

RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\Passive-Buzzer-Chime-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" (an A4 sheet) - keep the .hex file and
the DLLs beside the project.
ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running Chime_Sweep_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built in (window "TEP
  Arduino UNO - ARD1").
BZ1: the magnetic passive buzzer on D9 through R1 (100 ohm, our resistor), - to GND.
BZ2: the piezo disc straight on D8, - to GND.
  SW1, SW2: our push buttons from D2 and D3 to GND (INPUT_PULLUP).
  1. Press Run. BZ1 gets DC for 0.3 s: one click, no tone.
  2. Click SW1, or open its pop-up and click Press: a chime on the piezo, C7, E7, G7, C8.
  3. Click SW2: the buzzer sweeps from 500 Hz to 5 kHz; watch the dot climb its curve and fall past
  2.4 kHz.
Closed the monitor? Click the UNO's USB port.

WIRING (the same in Proteus and on a real board)
pin - 100 ohm - magnetic buzzer - GND : the resistor keeps the pin under 40 mA (a transistor gives
  the full volume)
pin - piezo disc - GND : no resistor needed
REAL HARDWARE:
 * tone(pin, hz) makes the square wave; noTone(pin) stops it. An UNO plays one tone() at a time.
 * A magnetic buzzer's coil is about 47 ohm: never put it straight on a pin. Use a resistor, or a
transistor for the full 85 dB.
 * A piezo disc is quiet in free air: glue it over a small cavity or into a box for much more sound.
 * Each one is loudest near its resonance: 2.4 kHz for the buzzer, 4.6 kHz for the disc.

THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (Chime_Sweep_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)
There are no commands. SW1 plays the chime on the piezo, SW2 the sweep on the buzzer; the sketch
prints each.
EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
Passive buzzers - The Engineering Projects
DC on the buzzer for 0.3 s: a passive buzzer only clicks
Press SW1 for the chime, SW2 for the sweep
  Chime on the piezo:
    C7 2093 Hz

PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
Loudest at (VALUE) 2.4kHz (buzzer) or 4.6kHz (disc): the label; the resonance is
  part of each device
  Sound on the PC, % 40 (0 = silent)
  Coil resistance, ohm (buzzer) 47
  Capacitance, nF (disc) 20
Every run starts again from the properties.

LINKS.INI (OPTIONAL)
The Help page cards of the pop-up open web pages. To point them somewhere else without a new DLL,
put a text file named links.ini next to TEPPASSIVE.DLL with lines KEY=URL, for example:
  ARTICLE=https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/...
Keys: WEBSITE, FORUM, BUG_REPORT, FEATURE_REQUEST, ARTICLE, USER_GUIDE,
UPDATE_CHECK, DONATE. Only http:// and https:// links are used; lines starting
with # are comments.

TROUBLESHOOTING
* It only clicks: it gets DC. A passive part needs a square wave: tone(pin, hz).
* It is quiet: the tone is far from its resonance, or the drive is low (1.4 V on the buzzer through
100 ohm). Check the pop-up's curve.
* No sound on the PC: the volume is 0, Mute is on, or the PC has no sound device. The simulation
  works the same.
* The Check page warns about the pin current: the buzzer's coil is on a pin with too small a
  resistor.
* The part is not simulated: TEPPASSIVE.DLL is missing from MODELS and from the project folder. No
UNO / no monitor window: TEPARDUINO.DLL is missing, or click the UNO's USB port.

REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit the sketch, open
Arduino Code\Chime_Sweep_Demo\Chime_Sweep_Demo.ino, select Arduino Uno and use Sketch > Export
Compiled Binary. Replace the simulation's .hex with the exported HEX. The sketch needs 5,126 bytes
of flash and 241 bytes of RAM.

MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the coil's resistance or the disc's capacitance, the frequency, note and duty of the
drive, the loudness from a resonance of quality Q,
the drive voltage and the duty, the click on DC, the sound on the PC.
Not modelled: the coil's inductance, the sound's real waveform and harmonics, the effect of a cavity
or a box.

How to add a library in Proteus 8

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP

How do I download Passive Buzzer Library for Proteus V1.0?

Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.

What is inside the archive?

Passive Buzzer Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 16 files (1.8 MB, 4.0 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 16 files.

What should I do if the download does not start?

Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.

Is this file free?

Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.

How do I check that the file arrived complete?

Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 8803dd8776900369bda35529d783557155ca33f84c3c0fd1ab486ee174757c5a. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "passive-buzzer-tep-v1-0-f038efdb7b3b4795b727bfb3339e7db8.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "passive-buzzer-tep-v1-0-f038efdb7b3b4795b727bfb3339e7db8.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.

Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?

No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.

Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?

Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.

Which Proteus version does the library need?

The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.

How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?

Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
