Total: 5.41 MB (unzipped). The C++ source code of the models is not included.

WHAT IS IT?
Three power LEDs on their 20 mm round aluminium boards, drawn at true scale from above (the 5 mm
emitter, its lens, + on the left, - on the right):
  * 1 W white - 350 mA at 3.2 V, about 100 lm, 500 mA at most.
  * 3 W white - 700 mA at 3.4 V, about 200 lm, 1000 mA at most.
  * 1 W red - 350 mA at 2.3 V, about 40 lm, 500 mA at most.
  * One analog model: the junction (its forward voltage falls about 2 mV for every degree it warms),
    the heat path (junction - board - air, the
    board's heatsink a property: NONE, SMALL or LARGE), and the light (it follows the current and
    falls as the junction warms, red faster than
    white). It forecasts the junction's final temperature, warns past 125 C and burns out 25 C
    beyond.
  * Click one at Run for the pop-up: the LED glowing, the heat path with each temperature and where
    the junction is heading, graphs, an event log
    and a check page that sizes a heatsink.
The body is drawn as on the real part and to true scale against our Arduino.
The TEP signature and the pop-up are TEP additions.

THREE DEVICES (search "POWERLED" in Pick Devices):
  POWERLED1WWHITETEP  "1W White Power LED V1.0" in TEPPOWERLED.LIB (Optoelectronics > Power LEDs),
  prefix D, model TEPPOWERLED.DLL. Pins + (A), - (K).
  POWERLED3WWHITETEP  "3W White Power LED V1.0" in TEPPOWERLED.LIB, prefix D, model TEPPOWERLED.DLL.
  Pins + (A), - (K).
  POWERLED1WREDTEP    "1W Red Power LED V1.0" in TEPPOWERLED.LIB, prefix D, model TEPPOWERLED.DLL.
  Pins + (A), - (K).

THE POP-UP
Click the part at Run. Tabs:
    Power LED the LED glowing from above, the heat path (junction - board - air, each temperature,
    the thermal resistances, a bar of the junction
               against its limit with where it is heading), and eight live values: current, Vf,
               power, light, junction, board, the forecast, and
               how far the current has moved since switch-on. The toolbar: New LED, its rating and
               heatsink.
    Graphs the live values over the last 2, 6 or 15 s. Live / Freeze.
    Event log every change and warning; filters All / Changes / Warnings, Pause, Clear
    Check what the part is doing and what to look at, each with a verdict (green = fine, amber
    = check, red = wrong)

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 31 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an A4 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0).
What the runs showed (the model's own numbers and the sketch's monitor):
  * The project loads and starts cleanly; the sketch switches all four LEDs on and prints the two 3
    W LEDs' currents every 2 s.
  * D1 (3 W white, bare board, through 2.2 ohm): 710 mA at switch-on, 721 mA at 2 s and 734 mA at 20
    s (+3.4 %): its junction warmed to 58 C, its
    Vf fell 66 mV (to 3.351 V), and the resistor let it take more. 188 lm, its light down 10 % from
    the heat. Heading for 104 C on the bare board:
    its Check page asks for a heatsink of 33 K/W or better to stay under 100 C. The monitor: 720 mA
    at 2 s, 733 mA at 20 s.
  * D2 (3 W white, bare board, on the constant-current driver IRLZ44N + 2N2222A + 1 ohm): 620 mA
    from start to finish (+0.0 %) - the monitor
    read 621 mA every time - although its Vf fell 56 mV; junction 53 C, heading for 91 C; 164 lm.
  * D3 (1 W white on a small heatsink, through 4.7 ohm): 376 mA, junction 37 C, heading for 47 C;
    103 lm.
  * D4 (1 W red on a large heatsink, through 8.2 ohm): 329 mA, junction 32 C, heading for 35 C; 36
    lm.
  * The pop-up: Power LED (the LED, the heat path junction - board - air with where the junction is
    heading), Graphs, Event log, Check - all four
    pages followed the run, for all four LEDs.

INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPPOWERLED.LIB, TEPRESISTOR.LIB, TEPPOWERRES.LIB,
TEPNMOS.LIB, TEPBJT.LIB and our Arduino library V4.0, ArduinoV4TEP.LIB, with the ARDUINO UNO V4.0
used by the demo) to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
   (use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPPOWERLED.DLL, TEPRESISTOR.DLL, TEPPOWERRES.DLL, TEPNMOS.DLL, TEPBJT.DLL and
TEPARDUINO.DLL from "Proteus Model Files" to the MODELS folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS).
4. Delete TEPPOWERLED.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there (Proteus makes a new index).
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "POWERLED".

RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\Power-LEDs-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" (an A4 sheet) - keep the .hex file and the DLLs
beside the project.
  ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running PowerLED_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built in (window "TEP
  Arduino UNO - ARD1").
  D1 3W white (bare):    VCC - R1 2R2 (5 W) - D1 - Q1 IRLZ44N (D9 - R4 220 - gate); A0 reads D1's
  anode
  D3 1W white (SMALL):   VCC - R2 4R7 (5 W) - D3 - Q1
  D4 1W red (LARGE):     VCC - R3 8R2 (5 W) - D4 - Q1
  D2 3W white (bare):    VCC - D2 - Q2 IRLZ44N - R6 1R0 (5 W) - GND; Q3 2N2222A from R6's top (A1)
  to Q2's gate; D10 - R5 10k - gate
  1. Press Run. The sketch switches all four on and prints D1's and D2's currents every 2 s.
  2. Watch D1's current creep up as it warms while D2's holds, and both junctions head towards their
  forecasts.
Closed the monitor? Click the UNO's USB port.

WIRING (the same in Proteus and on a real board)
  constant current (best): + to the supply, - to an N-MOSFET's drain; its source - R (0.6 V / I) -
  GND; an NPN from R's top to the gate
  resistor (simple): + through R = (V - Vf) / I to the supply - it drifts as the LED warms
REAL HARDWARE:
 * Drive a power LED with a constant current; a resistor lets a hot LED take more as its Vf falls.
 * Mount it on a heatsink: the bare board of a 3 W LED runs its junction near 100 C.
 * Keep the junction under 100 C for a long life; light falls as it warms.
 * Size the resistors for their power: 0.7 A through 2.2 ohm is 1.1 W.

THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (PowerLED_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)
There are no commands. The sketch switches the LEDs on and prints two currents every 2 s.
EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
  Power LEDs - The Engineering Projects
  t = 2 s: D1 (resistor) 720 mA, D2 (constant current) 621 mA

PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
  Part (VALUE) the label: 1W White LED, 3W White LED or 1W Red LED (the device
  sets the LED)
  Heatsink                         NONE (the bare board: 35 K/W), SMALL (12 K/W), LARGE (4 K/W)
Every run starts again from the properties.

LINKS.INI (OPTIONAL)
The Help page cards of the pop-up open web pages. To point them somewhere else without a new DLL,
put a text file named links.ini next to TEPPOWERLED.DLL with lines KEY=URL, for example:
  ARTICLE=https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/...
Keys: WEBSITE, FORUM, BUG_REPORT, FEATURE_REQUEST, ARTICLE, USER_GUIDE,
UPDATE_CHECK, DONATE. Only http:// and https:// links are used; lines starting
with # are comments.

TROUBLESHOOTING
* TOO HOT: the junction passed 125 C - a heatsink, or less current.
* The current creeps up: a resistor feed - use a constant-current driver.
* Dim and cool: too little current - check the resistor or the driver's sense resistor.
* BURNT OUT: too hot or too much current - New LED fits another.
* The part is not simulated: TEPPOWERLED.DLL is missing from MODELS and from the project folder. No
  UNO / no monitor window: TEPARDUINO.DLL is missing, or click the UNO's USB port.

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The model (TEPPOWERLED.DLL), the symbols and artwork, the other parts of ours in the demo and the
  Arduino Library V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, with its built-in TEP Serial Monitor
  Advance) are made by The Engineering Projects. The models use only standard Windows libraries; no
  Visual C++ redistributable is needed.
  The C++ source code is not included.
* Arduino UNO V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL, our Arduino Library V4.0 - its
  microcontroller is Proteus's own AVR model): The Engineering Projects,
  https://www.theengineeringprojects.com/2026/10/arduino-uno-library-for-proteus-v40.html
* The .hex file is built from the demo sketch and the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6, which includes
  LGPL-licensed code; its source code is available at
  https://github.com/arduino/ArduinoCore-avr/tree/1.8.6
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino is a trademark of Arduino SA.
  This library is not made or endorsed by Arduino or Labcenter.

REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit the sketch, open
Arduino Code\PowerLED_Demo\PowerLED_Demo.ino, select Arduino Uno and use Sketch > Export Compiled
Binary. Replace the simulation's .hex with the exported HEX. The sketch needs 5,036 bytes of flash
and 217 bytes of RAM.

MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the junction with its series resistance, Vf falling with temperature, the heat path
junction - board - air with its heat capacities,
the light against current and temperature, the burn-out.
Not modelled: the colour shift with current and heat, the slow loss of light over thousands of
hours, the optics. The thermal values are typical of
such LEDs and boards, not one datasheet.

  8. 8

    Follow the tutorial

    Power LED Library for Proteus: 1W and 3W LEDs explains every connection and setting in order; keep it open beside the files while you build.

How to add a library in Proteus 8

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP

How do I download Power LED Library for Proteus V1.0?

Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.

What is inside the archive?

Power LED Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 22 files (2.4 MB, 5.4 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 22 files.

What should I do if the download does not start?

Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.

Is this file free?

Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.

How do I check that the file arrived complete?

Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 09adc0715cf4b45bcc55b1a052fdce88519b4dbb18234adaf8411176276d2e17. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "power-led-tep-v1-0-a490cd53d2524177995473529daf995f.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "power-led-tep-v1-0-a490cd53d2524177995473529daf995f.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.

Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?

No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.

Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?

Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.

Which Proteus version does the library need?

The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.

How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?

Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
