WHAT IS IT?
A simulation model of the JGY-370 worm gear motor - a 370-size brushed DC motor
on a worm gearbox, its output shaft at a right angle to the motor, the motor of
curtain and blind openers, rotisseries, small lifts, camera pan heads and
winches. This one is the 12 V 1:150 version with a 6 mm D-shaft. Its one big
feature is that a worm gear is SELF-LOCKING: the load can never turn the motor
backwards, so a lifted weight stays where it is with no power at all. Our own
model, not Proteus's DC motor:
  * The motor between + and - is analog: the winding (7.06 ohm), the
    back-EMF, the friction and the inertia, all seen at the output shaft -
    40 RPM / 50 mA with no load at 12 V, 29 RPM / 0.49 A with 2 kg.cm (the
    data: 30 RPM, 0.6 A or less), a stall at 1.7 A and 7.5 kg.cm. Any driver
    works: an L9110S, a TB6612FNG, an L298N, a transistor, PWM or DC.
  * The worm: its friction grows with the torque it carries (5.25 x the
    load), so only 16 % of the motor's torque lifts the load, and the load
    pushing back can never overcome the friction - the self-locking. Lowering
    a weight also needs the motor to drive (less current than lifting).
  * A winch on the sheet: a drum (10 mm radius) on the output shaft with a
    rope down to a weight. The weight rises and falls with the simulation,
    from the floor (0 mm, the rope slack) to the drum (100 mm). At the drum
    it hits the stop and the motor stalls - as a real winch without a limit
    switch does. 1 kg on the 10 mm drum = 1 kg.cm on the shaft.
  * What it tells: the speed and direction (lifting / lowering), the weight's
    height, the average voltage, the current, PWM (frequency and duty) when
    the driver really switches, and the warnings - STALLED (at the top too),
    OVER-VOLTAGE (more than 15 V), a reversal at speed; and when the drive is
    off with a weight on the rope: "holding ... the worm locks".
The symbol shows the motor from its output shaft at 0.9 x its size: the silver
worm gearbox face with four M3 holes, the 370 motor across its side with the
black end cap and its two terminals, and the red / black wires from the + / -
pins. The plate, the drum, the rope, the weight, the floor, the UP / DOWN LEDs
and the strip under the plate (RPM, HEIGHT, AMPS, OPEN PANEL) are
TEP additions; the real motor has none of them.

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 29 Oct 2026 (the demo project as shipped: an
A3 sheet, an Arduino UNO V4.0 with its built-in monitor, our L9110S driver -
its pop-up version - with VCC on +12V, the JGY-370 on MOTOR A with 1 kg on the
drum, RV1 on A0; all pop-ups open). What the runs showed:
  * The project loads and starts cleanly. RV1 at 75 %: "Pot 768 -> up 49 %
    (PWM 127/255)" - the weight leaves the floor: 10.8 RPM at 5.21 V, 0.23 A.
  * "stop" at 71 mm: "holding 1.0 kg at 71 mm with no drive - the worm locks
    (self-locking)"; the 4 kg chip: still held, 0.0 A.
  * "up 100" with 4 kg: "steady 12.2 RPM CW (lifting) at 10.13 V average,
    0.933 A" (the L9110S drops 1.9 V at 0.93 A), up to the drum: "STALLED AT
    THE TOP - the weight is at the drum (100 mm), 1.32 A".
  * "down 100" with 4 kg: "steady 21.0 RPM CCW (lowering) at -10.69 V
    average, -0.650 A" - the worm has to be driven down too.
  * 1 kg, "up 100": 32.8 RPM at 11.46 V, 0.27 A, to the drum - the stall at
    the top again, 1.32 A at 9.36 V.
  * "down 60": 19.3 RPM CCW at -6.94 V, 0.22 A; "stop" at 66 mm: "holding
    1.0 kg at 66 mm with no drive".
  * The L9110S's own pop-up: VCC 12.00 V, its PWM, the run's peak current.
  * The simulation runs at about 0.25 x real time on a desktop PC (the whole
    demo run: 32 s of simulation in about 2 minutes).
  Plus automatic checks on a PC, 0 failed: 19 on the motor (12 V: 40.0 RPM,
  0.052 A, 90 % of the speed in 0.07 s; 2 kg.cm: 29.3 RPM, 0.49 A; 6 V: 19.4
  RPM; 8 kg stalls at 1.70 A, 7 kg still lifts at 2.6 RPM; 4 kg held at 50 mm
  for 2 s with the motor shorted and with it open - 0.02 mm of creep - while
  the same gearbox without the worm's friction lets it run down to the floor;
  lowering 2 kg: 32.7 RPM, 0.35 A; the stop at the drum: 100.5 mm and a stall;
  the floor: the rope slack, no load; PWM 980 Hz found with its duty; a
  reversal at speed: 3.24 A peak and its warning; 16 V: over-voltage); 5 on
  the pop-up pages rendered; the demo project read back from disk (69 checks:
  devices, pins, wires, labels, no wire through a part, no crossing).

INSTALLATION (about 2 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" (TEPJGY370.LIB and our Arduino
   library V4.0, ArduinoV4TEP.LIB) to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for
   example:
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
   (on some PCs: C:\ProgramData\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\
   LIBRARY - use the folder that already holds Proteus's own .LIB files).
3. Copy TEPJGY370.DLL and TEPARDUINO.DLL from "Proteus Model Files" to the
   MODELS folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS). The demo's driver is NOT
   in this package: install our L9110S Motor Driver library the same way (its
   own ZIP - see IMPORTANT LINKS): TEPL9110S.LIB and TEPL9110S.DLL.
4. Delete TEPJGY370.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there.
5. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "JGY".

RUN THE DEMO
"Proteus Simulation\JGY-370-Worm-Motor-L9110S-ArduinoUnoV4.pdsprj" - keep the
.hex file and the DLLs beside the project.
  ARD1: Arduino UNO V4.0 running JGY370_Demo.hex, its serial monitor built in
        (window "TEP Arduino UNO - ARD1").
  DRV1: the L9110S driver (pop-up version): A-IA on D5, A-IB on D6, GND - by
        net labels; VCC on a +12V power terminal (Proteus's 12 V rail); motor
        B unused.
  M1:   the JGY-370 on MOTOR A (A-OA to +, A-OB to -), 1 kg on the drum.
  RV1: a 10k potentiometer on A0: the speed and the direction.
  1. Press Run. The monitor and the two pop-ups open (move them aside). RV1 at
     75 %: the winch lifts the weight at about half speed.
  2. Click RV1's arrows: the middle stops it, right = up, left = down.
  3. Type in the monitor and press Enter (or Send): up 80, down 50, stop,
     knob.
  4. Stop it with a weight in the air and change the weight on the pop-up:
     the worm holds it with no drive.
  5. Lift it all the way: at the drum it stalls (a real winch needs a limit
     switch or a timer there).

WIRING (the same in Proteus and on a real board)
  L9110S          Arduino UNO / supply
   A-IA           D5 (PWM)
   A-IB           D6 (PWM)
   VCC            12 V supply (the L9110S takes 2.5 - 12 V; its inputs stay
                  5 V logic)
   GND GND (common with the Arduino)
  JGY-370         L9110S MOTOR A: + (red) to A-OA, - (black) to A-OB
In the sketch (no library needed):
  up:    analogWrite(IB, 0);  analogWrite(IA, speed);      // 0 - 255
  down:  analogWrite(IA, 0);  analogWrite(IB, speed);
  stop: both LOW (the worm holds the weight by itself anyway)
REAL HARDWARE:
 * The driver: the JGY-370 takes 0.6 A or less at its rated load and 1.7 A
   stalled at 12 V. The L9110S (0.8 A, 1.5 A peak) suits the rated load; for a
   winch that may stall use a TB6612FNG (1.2 A, 3.2 A peak) or an L298N.
 * A winch needs an end stop: a limit switch at the top (and at the bottom),
   or a timer - a JGY-370 driven into its stop draws the stall current and
   strains its gears.
 * Self-locking is not a brake for a falling load: it holds a load at rest
   and while driven; do not use it to catch a moving heavy load, and never
   stand under a lifted load.
 * Do not stall it for long: the data warns that the gearbox can be damaged.
 * Know your motor: JGY-370s come in many ratios (about 6 to 150 RPM at 12 V)
   - this one is the 1:150, 40 RPM version.

THE DEMO SKETCH ON THE SERIAL MONITOR (JGY370_Demo V1.0, 9600 baud)
  up 80     lift at 80 %             down 50   lower at 50 %

EXPECTED MONITOR OUTPUT
  JGY-370 Worm Gear Motor winch demo - The Engineering Projects
  L9110S: A-IA on D5, A-IB on D6. Turn the pot on A0: the middle stops, right = up, left = down.
  Commands: up 80 | down 50 | stop | knob | help
  Pot 768 -> up 49 % (PWM 127/255)

PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
  WEIGHT the weight on the winch in kg (default 1; on the 10 mm drum 1 kg =
           1 kg.cm; it lifts up to about 7.5 kg at 12 V)
  HEIGHT   the weight's height at the start in mm (default 0: on the floor;
           100 = at the drum)
Every run starts again from the properties.

TROUBLESHOOTING
* The shaft never turns and the pop-up says NO DRIVE: the driver's inputs
  (both LOW = stop), its VCC, or the motor wires on the wrong outputs.
* Slow, about half speed: the driver's VCC is 5 V, not 12 V.
* It lifts when it should lower: swap the motor's wires (or A-IA / A-IB).
* STALLED: less weight, or more drive; STALLED AT THE TOP: lower it.
* The weight does not move with a weight chip of None: there is nothing to
  lift - the drum turns, the rope is slack or winds empty.
* The part is not simulated / nothing moves on the sheet: TEPJGY370.DLL is
  missing from MODELS and from the project folder. No driver: install our
  L9110S library (TEPL9110S.LIB / .DLL). No UNO / no monitor window:
  TEPARDUINO.DLL, or click the UNO's USB port.
* The pop-up does not appear: click OPEN PANEL on the strip, or turn "Open the
  panel at Run" on its Settings page back on.

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The motor model (TEPJGY370.DLL), the symbol and artwork and the Arduino
  Library V4.0 (ArduinoV4TEP.LIB / TEPARDUINO.DLL) are made by The Engineering
  Projects. The model is an independent implementation written from the
  typical data of the 12 V 1:150 JGY-370 worm gear motor. The models use only
  standard Windows libraries; no Visual C++ redistributable is needed.
  The C++ source code is not included.
  The demo's driver, our L9110S Motor Driver library (TEPL9110S.LIB /
  TEPL9110S.DLL), is a separate download.
* The potentiometer is Proteus's own POT-HG.
* The demo's .hex is built from the demo sketch and the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6,
  which includes LGPL-licensed code; its source code is available at
  https://github.com/arduino/ArduinoCore-avr/tree/1.8.6
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino is
  a trademark of Arduino SA.
  This library is not made or endorsed by Arduino or Labcenter.

REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied; Arduino IDE is not needed to run the demo. To edit the
sketch, open Arduino Code\JGY370_Demo\JGY370_Demo.ino, select Arduino Uno and
use Sketch > Export Compiled Binary. The sketch needs 5,158 bytes of flash
(16 % of the UNO) and 254 bytes of RAM.

MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the winding resistance, the back-EMF, the friction (Coulomb and
viscous), the worm's load-dependent friction (the efficiency and the
self-locking), the inertia, the weight on a 10 mm drum, the floor (a slack
rope) and the stop at the drum, the current both ways, any voltage either way.
How it runs: the speed is an internal analog node solved together with the
driver (backward Euler, analog steps of 2 ms or less); the angle is the speed
integrated - the weight's height.
Not modelled: the winding inductance, the gear backlash and wear, the rope's
stretch and swing, the worm's lower friction when it moves fast or is well
greased (the real self-locking can weaken with vibration), heating, the
differences between real motors.

The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.

What is inside the archive?

JGY-370 Worm Gear Motor Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 10 files (1.2 MB, 2.6 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch and compiled HEX firmware. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 10 files.

What should I do if the download does not start?

Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.

Is this file free?

Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.

How do I check that the file arrived complete?

Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 94879ca4d0dfef07cb597978314071b04d5cd315b337db811caec4d9e211fedf. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "jgy-370-worm-gear-motor-tep-v1-0-ed372a91639645a09b3b711e75ee0efa.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "jgy-370-worm-gear-motor-tep-v1-0-ed372a91639645a09b3b711e75ee0efa.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.

Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?

No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.

Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?

Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.

Which Proteus version does the library need?

The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.

How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?

Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
