Hello readers, hope you all are doing great. In this tutorial, we will discuss low power modes in ESP32, their purpose and their implementation to increase the battery life by reducing power consumption.
Purpose of Low Power Modes
Fig.1
Along with multiple wireless and processing features, ESP32 also provides us with a power-saving feature by offering sleep modes. When you are powering the ESP32 module from the live supply using an adaptor or a USB cable, there is nothing to worry about power consumption. But when you are using a battery, as a power source to ESP32, you need to manage the power consumption for longer battery life.
Low Power Modes in ESP32
When ESP32 is in sleep mode, a small amount of power is required to maintain the state of ...
Hello readers, I hope you all are doing great.
ESP32 is a powerful chip for Internet of Things applications. This tutorial is also based on one of the ESP32 applications in the field of IoT.
Project Overview
In this tutorial, we will learn how to update LCD display with new data or input using a web server created with ESP32.
Fig. 1
To achieve the target, we will be using an HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) form to provide web input and then update the text displayed on LCD. The values or input received from the webserver will be further stored inside a variable in the code for further use (to display on LCD).
We have already posted a tutorial on LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) interfacing with ESP32. In that tutorial, we demonstrated how to displa ...
Hello readers, I hope you are all doing great. In this tutorial, we are going to discuss the OTA web updater on the ESP32.
We already covered the fundamentals of OTA programming in ESP32, in our previous tutorial where we used the Arduino IDE to upload OTA code into the ESP32 module using the network port.
In the OTA web updater, you need to create a web server page for OTA programming.

Over the Air Web Updater
"Over-the-air" refers to the ability to wirelessly download an application, configuration, or firmware to internet-enabled devices, also known as IoT. (OTA). It functions similarly to our computers, laptops, tab ...
We are familiar with multiple features of the ESP32 module. Like Wi-Fi capabilities, classic Bluetooth, Bluetooth low energy (BLE), inbuilt sensors etc.
Hello readers, I hope you all are doing great. We have already mentioned in our previous tutorials that, ESP32 is also featured with a Dual-Core Processor. Which provides better performance and efficiency.
In this tutorial, we will learn how to use ESP32’s dual cores. ESP32 has two (32-bit each) Tensilica Xtensa LX6 microprocessors namely, core0 and core1 which makes it a powerful dual-core microcontroller and hence stands apart from its predecessors.
When we compile and upload a code using Arduino IDE, we do not have to worry about which core executes the code. It just runs.

Hello readers, today we will learn about the messaging protocol supported by ESP32(called MQTT protocol), which is used for IoT applications. The communication protocol to be used for data transmission and connectivity in web-enabled devices depends upon the type of IoT application.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of interconnected computing devices like digital machines, automobiles with inbuilt sensors, having unique identifiers and the ability to communicate data over a network without the need for human intervention.
Before implementation, let's first have a look at what is MQTT Protocol?
What is MQTT?
MQTT stands for Message Queuing Telemetry Protocol and is a messaging or communication protocol used for IoT applications.
In MQ ...
Hello readers, I hope you all are doing great. In our previous tutorial, we learnt how to make HTTP POST from ESP32 to the IFTTT server.
In this tutorial, we will learn about another application of the ESP32 module in the field of IoT (Internet of Things). We can publish multiple sensor readings from ESP32 to Google sheets via the IFTTT web service.
IFTTT is used as a third-party web service to integrate Google sheets with ESP32.
Fig. 1
Creating an IFTTT Account for Integrating ESP32 with Google Sheets
We are going to create an applet (on the IFTTT server) that is responsible to integrate the Webhooks and Google Sheets services.
While operating with the IFTTT server there are some services/utilities that we are going to deal with like Applets an ...
Hello readers, I hope you are all doing great. Welcome to the 2nd lecture of Section 5(ESP32 Sensors) in the ESP32 Programming Series. In the previous tutorial, we discussed the built-in ESP32 Hall Effect Sensor. In this tutorial, we will discuss another inbuilt sensor of the ESP32 i.e. Capacitive Touch Sensor.
ESP32 Board has 10 built-in capacitive touch pins, which generate an electrical signal when someone touches these pins. These ESP32 touch pins are normally used to wake up the board from deep sleep mode. These touch pins are also used to replace the normal mechanical buttons with touch pads, improving the presentation of the IoT projects.
Here's the video demonstration of the ESP32 Capacitive Touch Sensor:
Before going forward, let's first understand how this touch sens ...
Hello readers, hope you all are doing great. Today, we will discuss interrupts and timers in ESP32 and how to handle internal as well as external interrupts. So, we will discuss What is interrupt, Polling, ESP32 interrupt, Software interrupts, Hardware Interrupts, IRS (Interrupt Service routine), Steps to execute an interrupt or how is an interrupt handled in the microcontroller, Code description for ESP32 interrupts with Arduino IDE, Code description for hardware interrupts, Why is it preferred to use timer to add delay instead of using delay() function. So, let's get started:
What is Interrupt?
Interrupts are used when a micro-controller needs to continuously monitor for an event while the same micro-controller is executing a particular task ...
Hello readers, we hope you all are doing great. Welcome to the 1st lecture of Section 4 in the ESP32 Programming Series. In this section, we will interface the ESP32 module with common Embedded modules(i.e. LCD, Keypad, RTC etc.).
In today's tutorial, we will interface ESP32 with a 16x2 LCD and will display data using both Data Mode and I2C Mode. LCD is the most commonly used embedded module in IoT Projects. It is used to display different types of data i.e. sensor readings, warning messages, notifications etc.
Before going forward, let's first have a look at what is LCD and How it works:
16x2 LCD Module
LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is a type of electronic display module that is used in a wide variety of applications and devices such as calculators, computers, mobile phones, ...
Hello readers, I hope you all are doing great. In this tutorial, we will learn about the ESP-NOW protocol and how to communicate data between two ESP modules through ESP-NOW protocol and that is too without Wi-Fi connectivity.
What is ESP-NOW Protocol?
Fig. 1: ESP-NOW Protocol
ESP–NOW is a connectionless communication protocol that is used for sharing small data packets between two ESP boards. This protocol is developed by Espressif.
Features of ESP-NOW Protocol:
It is a low-power wireless protocol, which makes two or more ESP devices communicate directly with each other without using Wi-Fi.
ESP-NOW protocol does not require a handshake for establishing a connection but, they require pairing and once the devices are paired they can exchang ...
