WHAT IS IT?
Proteus 8 has no ESP32 processor model, so this is NOT a real ESP32 chip. Our team has put a lot of effort into building
this board ourselves: it is Olimex's ESP32-POE - the red board with the ESP32-WROOM-32 module, the Ethernet jack with
Power over Ethernet, the micro USB, the UEXT connector, the RST and BUT1 buttons and the two 10-pin headers - that runs
YOUR ESP32 Arduino sketch in Proteus:
* You write a normal ESP32 sketch (the GPIO numbers of the board, analogRead 0-4095, analogWrite, ledcWrite,
attachInterrupt, Wire, SPI, Serial, Serial2, ETH, WiFi, WebServer, HTTPClient, ESPmDNS ...) and compile it in the
Arduino IDE with our board package "TEP Boards for Proteus" 1.44.0 (in Arduino Code - see INSTALLATION).
* The board model (TEPNET.DLL) runs the compiled sketch: the pins with their GPIO numbers, RST, the user button BUT1
on
GPIO34, the Ethernet PHY on the board, the built-in serial monitor and the Wi-Fi radio.
* Ethernet: ETH.begin() needs no arguments; a virtual router gives the board 192.168.1.101 by DHCP over the cable, and
the jack's green and yellow LEDs light. WiFiClient, WiFiServer, WebServer and HTTPClient run over the cable.
A click on the RJ45 jack pulls the cable out; the CABLE property sets it at Run.
The board is seen from above and turned so the RJ45 jack is on the left and the module on the right (top row: 5 4 3 2
1 0
EN GND 3V3 5V; bottom row: 13 14 15 16 32 33 34 35 36 39). It is drawn a little shorter than the real one (80 x 28 mm)
so
it stays under the size of the UNO.
TEP additions: the PCB antenna's colours, the PANEL pad (or the module) opens the board's panel, the micro USB opens the
serial monitor.
Limits (say them before you start): your sketch gets 8 KB of RAM in the simulation (the real board: 520 KB), about 256
KB
of flash, int is 16 bits in the simulation (use long / int32_t for big numbers), no FreeRTOS tasks, no second core, no
Bluetooth, no ESP-IDF, no real TLS, no soft AP. The PoE power itself is a picture: Proteus' rails feed the board. See
MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS.
ONE DEVICE (search "ESP32-POE" in Pick Devices):
ESP32-POE "Olimex ESP32-POE" V1.0 (Microprocessor ICs > ESP32 Boards), prefix U, model TEPNET.DLL. The panel (a TEP
pop-up window; the PANEL pad opens it): Wi-Fi (a phone: OPEN POE PAGE, the router's list), Pins (every pin live),
Test, Settings, Help. The serial monitor (115200 baud) has Monitor, Plotter and Board tabs (the Board tab: RST, BUT1,
every pin). Like every TEP window it has no Windows title bar.
The same TEPNET.DLL also runs our other Wi-Fi boards and the Laptop / Mobile WiFi Monitors; it replaces any older
TEPNET.DLL (keep only this newest one in MODELS).
TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 30 Oct 2026 with the demo project as shipped. What the Proteus run showed:
* ESP32-POE-Door-Access: the monitor printed "MFRC522 version 0x92", "ETH link up: 100 Mbit/s" and "Door page:
http://192.168.1.101/"; the jack's green and yellow LEDs lit, the PWR LED on.
* The laptop (192.168.1.21) opened http://192.168.1.101/json and the phone (192.168.1.41) http://192.168.1.101/ (HTTP
200).
* Card 1: "Open: DEADBEEF", the relay on for 3 s, "Door closed". Card 3: "Refused: 04112233445566". ADD on the phone:
"Added: 04112233445566"; card 3 again: "Open: 04112233445566".
* LOCK: "Lockdown on (the web page)"; card 1: "Locked: DEADBEEF"; LOCK: "Lockdown off (the web page)"; OPEN: "Open: the
web page".
* About 50 s of simulation, no errors, with the pop-ups, the panel, the monitor and both tools open.
INSTALLATION (about 3 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(on some PCs: C:\ProgramData\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY). TEPESP32POE.LIB is the board; the
others are the demo's parts: TEPMFRC522.LIB, TEPRELAY.LIB, TEPLAPTOP.LIB and TEPMOBILE.LIB.
3. Copy the DLLs from "Proteus Model Files" (TEPNET.DLL, TEPMFRC522.DLL, TEPRELAY.DLL) to the MODELS folder (...\Proteus
8 Professional\MODELS) - replace an older TEPNET.DLL (this one is the first that knows the ESP32-POE).
4. Delete TEPESP32POE.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there.
5. The Arduino IDE (only to compile your own sketches - the demo has its HEX file): copy the folder
"Arduino Code\TEP Boards for Proteus\hardware" into your sketchbook folder (normally Documents\Arduino), so that
Documents\Arduino\hardware\tep\avr\boards.txt exists (replace an older copy); restart the IDE. The Arduino AVR Boards
platform must be installed (it comes with IDE 1.8.x; in IDE 2.x install "Arduino AVR Boards" from the Boards Manager
once). Tools > Board > TEP Boards for Proteus > ESP32-POE (TEP Proteus). The demo also needs MFRC522 (Library
Manager).
6. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "ESP32-POE".
RUN THE DEMO
Keep the .hex file and the DLLs beside the project in "Proteus Simulation".
ESP32-POE-Door-Access.pdsprj - U1 the ESP32-POE (ESP32POE_Door_Access.hex) is a door controller on the network: U2 = the
MFRC522 RFID reader on SPI (SS GPIO5, MOSI GPIO2, MISO GPIO15, SCK GPIO14, RST GPIO33) and RLY1 = the relay on GPIO32,
the door strike (active LOW). PC1 the Laptop WiFi Monitor opens http://192.168.1.101/json, MOB1 the Mobile WiFi Monitor
the page http://192.168.1.101/. The MFRC522 and the relay are the Advance versions: they open their pop-up windows at
Run.
Two cards are allowed at the start: card 1 (DEADBEEF) and card 2 (12345678). A good card opens the door for 3 s. Card 3
(04112233445566) is refused; ADD on the page allows the last refused card. LOCK is a lockdown: no card opens the door
until it is pressed again. OPEN on the page and BUT1 (GPIO34, the exit button) open the door too.
Press Run. The board gets its address over the cable. Click Tap on card 1 on the MFRC522's pop-up, then on card 3. On
the
phone click Reload, ADD, LOCK and OPEN.
The supply: in the demo the modules' VCC is Proteus' power rail; on a real board the reader sits on 3V3 and the relay
on 5V.
Closed a window? The micro USB of the board opens the monitor, the PANEL pad the panel. The monitor (115200) prints
every
event and a status line every 10 s and takes STATUS, OPEN and LOCK.
THE PINS (the label on the board, what it can do in the simulation)
13 / 16 SDA / SCL (Wire)
5, 2, 15, 14 SS, MOSI, MISO, SCK (SPI)
1 / 3 TX / RX: Serial (the board's monitor)
33 / 35 TX2 / RX2: Serial2
0, 4, 32 GPIO, PWM, interrupt
34, 35, 36, 39 input only; 34 is the user button BUT1 (KEY_BUILTIN, LOW when pressed)
3V3, 5V, GND 3.3 V (the logic), 5 V, ground; EN resets the board
On the board: the Ethernet PHY (MDC GPIO23, MDIO GPIO18, its clock from GPIO17, enabled by GPIO12): not on the headers.
PROPERTIES (double-click the board > Edit Properties)
PROGRAM the sketch's HEX (Arduino IDE: Sketch > Export Compiled Binary with ESP32-POE (TEP Proteus))
CABLE the Ethernet cable at Run (IN, OUT)
WIFISSID the router in range (default TEP-WiFi); WIFIPASS its password (default 12345678)
MONITOR YES = the built-in serial monitor on Serial; BAUD its speed (115200, or AUTO)
AUTOOPEN YES = the monitor window opens at Run (the demo: YES)
TIME the clock for NTP: PC (the PC's clock) or YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS in UTC
The IP address follows the part's number: U1 192.168.1.101, U2 .102 ...
TROUBLESHOOTING
* Nothing happens at Run: the HEX was not built with TEP Boards for Proteus - select ESP32-POE (TEP Proteus) and export
again.
* The monitor prints no ETH lines: call WiFi.onEvent() before ETH.begin(), and check the CABLE property.
* "MFRC522 version 0x0": check SS (GPIO5), MOSI (2), MISO (15), SCK (14) and RST (33).
* The relay does not click: it is active LOW - IN LOW = on.
* An integer goes wrong above 32767: int is 16 bits in the simulation - use long.
* The page shows old values: tap Reload (the monitors do not reload by themselves).

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP
How do I download Olimex ESP32-POE Library for Proteus V1.0?
Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.
What is inside the archive?
Olimex ESP32-POE Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 236 files (3.6 MB, 8.3 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch, an Arduino library, compiled HEX firmware and source code. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 236 files.
What should I do if the download does not start?
Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.
Is this file free?
Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.
How do I check that the file arrived complete?
Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 6c9a08d894d078048adb71ec8c104da5c23d0cb07cec3c832151dff33b86347a. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "olimex-esp32-poe-tep-v1-0-77a30dc98e2f4dea927939557686a0b4.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "olimex-esp32-poe-tep-v1-0-77a30dc98e2f4dea927939557686a0b4.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.
Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?
No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.
Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?
Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.
Which Proteus version does the library need?
The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.
How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?
Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
Members skip the wait. Log in or join TEP.
