WHAT IS IT?
Proteus 8 has no Nordic nRF52833 model, so this is NOT a real nRF52833. It is the BBC micro:bit V2 - the 52 x 42 mm
black board with the 5 x 5 red LED matrix, buttons A and B, the gold touch logo, the micro-USB and the edge connector
with its five big rings (0, 1, 2, 3V, GND) - that runs YOUR micro:bit Arduino sketch in Proteus:
  * You write a normal micro:bit sketch with the micro:bit's pin numbers (P0 .. P20: digitalWrite(2, HIGH),
analogRead(0), PIN_BUTTON_A, PIN_BUTTON_B, Serial, Serial1, Wire, SPI ...) and compile it in the Arduino IDE with
our board package "TEP Boards for Proteus" 1.36.0 (in Arduino Code - see INSTALLATION).
  * Inside the board, Proteus's own ATmega2560 model runs the compiled sketch at 16 MHz; our model (TEPNET.DLL) wraps
    it: the edge pins, 3.3 V logic, analogRead 0 .. 1023 for 0 .. 3.3 V on P0, P1 and P2, buttons A and B (click them),
the power LED and the built-in serial monitor on the USB (Serial).
  * The LED matrix: Adafruit_Microbit's names (Adafruit_Microbit_Matrix microbit; microbit.begin(); microbit.show(
microbit.HEART); microbit.print("HI"); microbit.scrollText("GO"); drawPixel, fillScreen, clear; the icons HEART,
YES, NO, HAPPY, SAD, ARROW_UP ...). The board model draws the 25 LEDs on the board.
  * The radio: our MicrobitRadio library with MicroPython's names (Radio.on(); Radio.config(23); Radio.send("GO");
Radio.available(); Radio.receive(); Radio.rssi()). Messages up to 32 bytes go to every other micro:bit of the design
on the same group and channel - put two, three or more micro:bits on one sheet and they talk.
TEP additions: the micro-USB opens the serial monitor; the matrix and the power LED glow in the simulation.
For Wi-Fi, put an ESP-01 / ESP-01S on Serial1 (P0 RX / P1 TX) and talk to it with AT commands, as the demo does.
Limits (say them before you start): 16 MHz, 8 KB of RAM (the real nRF52833: 64 MHz, 128 KB), the nRF52833's own
registers are not there - write Arduino code, not registers. See MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS.

ONE DEVICE (search "MICROBIT" in Pick Devices):
  BBC MICROBIT V2 "BBC micro:bit V2" V1.0 (Microprocessor ICs > micro:bit), prefix U, model TEPNET.DLL. The serial
monitor (115200 baud) has Monitor, Plotter and Board tabs (the Board tab: the power LED, the RESET key, button A,
every pin). Like every TEP window it has no Windows title bar.
The same TEPNET.DLL also runs our other sketch boards, the ESP-01S and the Laptop / Mobile WiFi Monitors; it replaces
any older TEPNET.DLL (keep only this newest one in MODELS).

TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 27 Oct 2026 with the demo project as shipped. What the Proteus run showed:
* Microbit-Reaction-Game: both matrices showed a happy face; U1's monitor printed "Joining TEP-WiFi... connected",
"Scoreboard: http://192.168.1.103/" and "Press B (or START on the page) for a round"; U2's monitor "Waiting for the
host on radio group 23"; the ESP-01S's pop-up: joined, the server on port 80. Each board's monitor showed only its own
lines (two micro:bits in one design, each with its own USB serial and buttons).
* The laptop (192.168.1.21) and the phone (192.168.1.41) opened http://192.168.1.103/ (HTTP 200): the score, the last
result, the times, START, RESET, REFRESH and JSON.
* Round 1 (START in U1's monitor): both matrices counted 3 - 2 - 1, the ring filled red then amber; GO: the arrow on
both, the ring green; A on U2 then A on U1 (the monitors' Board tab keys): "Player 2: 302 ms (RSSI -46 dBm)",
  "Player 1: 433 ms", "Winner: round 1: player 2 in 302 ms - score 0 : 1"; YES on U2, NO on U1, the ring red. U2's
  monitor: "Radio: R", "Radio: G", "Pressed after 302 ms", "Radio: W2", "I won! Wins 1 of 1".
* Round 2: player 1 first - "Winner: round 2: player 1 in 319 ms - score 1 : 1", YES on U1 (the PWR LED lit), the ring
blue. Round 3 from START on the phone ("Page: /start"): A on U1 during the countdown (a false start), then A on U2
  after GO - "Winner: round 3: player 2 (a false start) - score 1 : 2", the ring red; the pages: 1 : 2, 3 rounds.
* About 45 s of simulation in about 6.5 minutes with both monitors, the ESP-01S's and the ring's pop-ups and both tools
  open; no errors.

INSTALLATION (about 3 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
     C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
   (on some PCs: C:\ProgramData\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY). TEPMICROBIT.LIB is the board;
   the others are the demo's parts: TEPESP01S.LIB, TEPWS2812.LIB, TEPLAPTOP.LIB and TEPMOBILE.LIB.
3. Copy the DLLs from "Proteus Model Files" (TEPNET.DLL, TEPWS2812.DLL) to the MODELS folder
(...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS) - replace an older TEPNET.DLL (this one is the first that knows the micro:bit).
4. Delete TEPMICROBIT.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there.
5. The Arduino IDE (only to compile your own sketches - the demo has its HEX files): copy the folder
"Arduino Code\TEP Boards for Proteus\hardware" into your sketchbook folder (normally Documents\Arduino), so that
Documents\Arduino\hardware\tep\avr\boards.txt exists (replace an older copy); restart the IDE. The Arduino AVR Boards
platform must be installed (it comes with IDE 1.8.x; in IDE 2.x install "Arduino AVR Boards" from the Boards Manager
once). Tools > Board > TEP Boards for Proteus > BBC micro:bit V2 (TEP Proteus). Adafruit_Microbit and MicrobitRadio
come with the package; for the demo also install "Adafruit NeoPixel" from the Library Manager.
6. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "MICROBIT".

RUN THE DEMO
Keep the .hex files and the DLLs beside the project in "Proteus Simulation".
Microbit-Reaction-Game.pdsprj - a two-player reaction game over the radio (group 23). U1 the host micro:bit
(Microbit_Reaction_Host.hex, player 1) runs the game: U3 = the ESP-01S (TXD to P0, RXD to P1, Serial1 at 115200 baud)
serves the scoreboard, NEO1 = the 12-LED WS2812B ring (Advance; DIN on P2) shows the countdown, GO and the winner.
U2 the player micro:bit (Microbit_Reaction_Player.hex, player 2) has nothing wired: the radio is its only link.
PC1 the Laptop WiFi Monitor and MOB1 the Mobile WiFi Monitor open http://192.168.1.103/.
Press Run. Both matrices show a happy face, the ESP-01S joins TEP-WiFi and U1's monitor prints the scoreboard's address.
A round: press B on U1 (click it on the board), tap START on the page or type START in U1's monitor.
  * both matrices count down 3 - 2 - 1 (the ring fills red, then amber), then after a random 1 - 3 s wait: GO - an
arrow on both matrices and the ring all green
  * press A (click it on the board, or the A key on the monitor's Board tab): the first player wins the round; A before
GO is a false start and loses it; nobody in 3 s: nobody wins
  * both matrices show YES (the winner) or NO, the ring lights in the winner's colour (player 1 blue, player 2 red)
The radio messages: R (a round starts), G (go), T<ms> (player 2's time), F (player 2's false start), W1 / W2 / W0 (the
winner). U1's monitor prints every round ("Player 2: 412 ms (RSSI -50 dBm)", "Winner: round 1: player 2 in 412 ms");
it takes START, RESET, STATUS, HELP and AT commands. U2's monitor prints every message it hears.
The page shows the score, the last result, the times and the best time, with START, RESET, REFRESH and /json.
The modules' supplies: in the demo the ESP-01S's VCC and the ring's 5V go to Proteus' power rail (power terminals) -
their models read the supply as a digital level, which the board's 3V (an analog source) does not give them; on a real
micro:bit the ESP-01S needs its own 3.3 V supply (it draws more than the board's regulator gives) and the ring a 5 V
supply, the grounds joined. Closed the monitor? Click the board's micro-USB.

THE PINS (the label on the board, what it can do in the simulation)
  0 / 1 / 2 (rings) P0 / P1 / P2: GPIO, analogRead 0 .. 1023 for 0 .. 3.3 V, interrupt, analogWrite; P0 / P1 are also
                     Serial1 RX / TX
  P8, P12 GPIO, interrupt, analogWrite
  P13 / P14 / P15 SPI SCK / MISO / MOSI, GPIO
  P16 SS, GPIO
  P19 / P20 Wire SCL / SDA (I2C), GPIO
  3V, GND (rings) 3.3 V and ground
  P3, P4, P6, P7, P9, P10 (the matrix on the real board) and P5 / P11 (buttons A / B) are drawn on the connector, not
brought out: the matrix and the buttons are the board model's.
Serial is the USB (the board's monitor), not P0 / P1. The pins are 3.3 V logic, as on the real micro:bit.

PROPERTIES (double-click the board > Edit Properties)
PROGRAM the sketch's HEX (Arduino IDE: Sketch > Export Compiled Binary with BBC micro:bit V2 (TEP Proteus))
MONITOR YES = the built-in serial monitor on the USB (Serial); BAUD its speed (115200, or AUTO)
AUTOOPEN YES = the monitor window opens at Run (the demo: YES)
Several micro:bits in one design are fine: each keeps its own USB serial and buttons, and all share one radio air.

TROUBLESHOOTING
* Nothing happens at Run: the HEX was not built with TEP Boards for Proteus - select BBC micro:bit V2 (TEP Proteus) and
  export the binary again.
* The other micro:bit hears nothing: both need Radio.on() and the same Radio.config(group) - and the same channel if
you set one (7 by default).
* "Joining TEP-WiFi... FAILED": the sketch's SSID / password differ from the ESP-01S's WIFISSID / WIFIPASS.
* No page: the ESP-01S's TXD to P0, RXD to P1, VCC on the power terminal; the address is in U1's monitor.
* The ring stays dark: DIN on P2, its 5V on the power terminal, ring.begin() and ring.show().
* An integer goes wrong above 32767: int is 16 bits here (on the real nRF52833 it is 32 bits) - use long.
* The page shows old values: tap REFRESH (the monitors do not reload by themselves).

LICENCES AND THIRD-PARTY NOTES
* The board model and the network (TEPNET.DLL, which also runs the ESP-01S), the symbols and artwork (TEPMICROBIT.LIB,
TEPESP01S.LIB, TEPLAPTOP.LIB, TEPMOBILE.LIB) and the ring's model (TEPWS2812) are made by The Engineering Projects.
The board's processor is Proteus's own ATmega2560 model. The source code of the models is not included.
* TEP Boards for Proteus (Arduino Code): its core, the variants and the EEPROM, SPI and Wire libraries are modified
copies of the Arduino AVR core 1.8.6 - GNU Lesser General Public License 2.1 (LGPL 2.1, the text:
LICENSE-LGPL-2.1.txt); its Adafruit_Microbit (written by us with Adafruit's names) and MicrobitRadio (MicroPython's
names) libraries, its other libraries and our core files are MIT (LICENSE-MIT.txt).
* The demo sketch uses Adafruit NeoPixel (LGPL 3, Adafruit Industries) from the Library Manager - not included; the
  .hex files are included.
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. BBC and micro:bit are trademarks of the BBC and
the Micro:bit Educational Foundation; nRF52833 is a name of Nordic Semiconductor. This library is not made or endorsed
by them, by Adafruit or by Labcenter.

REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX files are supplied. Install TEP Boards for Proteus (INSTALLATION step 5) and Adafruit NeoPixel, open Arduino
Code\Microbit_Reaction_Host and Arduino Code\Microbit_Reaction_Player, select BBC micro:bit V2 (TEP Proteus) and use
Sketch > Export Compiled Binary for each. For real micro:bits the matrix code compiles with Adafruit's Adafruit_Microbit
library (the nRF5 boards package); the radio there is a different library (MicroPython's radio module, or Adafruit's
BLE) - our MicrobitRadio is the Proteus radio.

MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the micro:bit's edge pins on a hidden ATmega2560 (Proteus's AVR model, 16 MHz, 3.3 V); digital I/O, analogRead
(P0, P1, P2) 0 .. 1023 for 0 .. 3.3 V, PWM (analogWrite) and attachInterrupt on any pin through the board model; buttons
A and B (a click is a press of at least 0.12 s), the 5 x 5 LED matrix (on / off per LED), the power LED; Serial (the
USB, the board's monitor), Serial1 on P0 / P1, Wire on P19 / P20, SPI on P13 .. P16, EEPROM; the radio between the
micro:bits of the design (groups, channels, power 0 .. 7 as the RSSI the others see, 32-byte messages, a queue of 4).
Not modelled: the nRF52833 itself (64 MHz, 128 KB RAM, Bluetooth LE), the matrix's brightness levels, the
accelerometer and compass, the speaker and the microphone, the touch logo, the RESET button on the back, the edge
connector's P3 .. P7, P9 .. P11 as pins, MicroPython and MakeCode (this board runs Arduino sketches). The power LED is
drawn at the top edge (on the real board it is on the back). The simulation runs below real time.

  2. 2

Copy the library files into Proteus

Move TEPESP01S.LIB, TEPLAPTOP.LIB and TEPMICROBIT.LIB and 2 more and the files into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY for Proteus 8, or the matching Proteus 7 folder. Older versions keep it under ProgramData\Labcenter Electronics. If Proteus is open, close it first.

  3. 3

    Add the simulation model

Copy TEPNET.DLL and TEPWS2812.DLL into the MODELS folder next to LIBRARY, so the component can run, not only be drawn.

  4. 4

Restart Proteus and place the component

Start Proteus, open a schematic, press P (Pick Devices) and search for the component by the name used in the tutorial. It appears with its pins ready to wire.

  5. 5

    Install the Arduino library

In the Arduino IDE choose Sketch → Include Library → Add .ZIP Library and pick the library, or copy its folder into Documents\Arduino\libraries. Restart the IDE to see its examples.

  6. 6

Open the sketch in the Arduino IDE

Open Microbit_Reaction_Host.ino, Microbit_Reaction_Player.ino and eeprom_clear.ino and 16 more, select your board and port under Tools, then Verify. Sketch → Export Compiled Binary writes the HEX file a simulation needs.

  7. 7

    Build the source code

Open abi.cpp, Arduino.h and binary.h and 52 more in the compiler named in the tutorial (MikroC, Keil, MPLAB, Code Composer or the Arduino IDE) and build it to get the firmware.

  8. 8

    Load the HEX file

In Proteus double-click the microcontroller, set Program File to Microbit_Reaction_Host.hex and Microbit_Reaction_Player.hex and run the simulation. For real hardware, flash the same file with your programmer.

  9. 9

    Open the example simulation

Open Microbit-Reaction-Game.pdsprj in Proteus to see the wiring exactly as in the tutorial. Check the controller's Program File path, then press Play.

  10. 10

    Follow the tutorial

BBC micro:bit V2 Library for Proteus: LED Matrix and Radio Game explains every connection and setting in order; keep it open beside the files while you build.

How to add a library in Proteus 8

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP

How do I download BBC micro:bit V2 Library for Proteus V1.0?

Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.

What is inside the archive?

BBC micro:bit V2 Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 210 files (3.3 MB, 8.4 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch, an Arduino library, compiled HEX firmware and source code. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 210 files.

What should I do if the download does not start?

Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.

Is this file free?

Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.

How do I check that the file arrived complete?

Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, ff053dcb5901fe1190f97ce088eb758de12c4ea6341d6f076ade0580fda6b303. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "bbc-microbit-v2-tep-v1-0-288ba98697534ca18c92f8cd242e6544.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "bbc-microbit-v2-tep-v1-0-288ba98697534ca18c92f8cd242e6544.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.

Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?

No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.

Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?

Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.

Which Proteus version does the library need?

The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.

How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?

Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
