WHAT IS IT?
Proteus 8 has no STM32F411 (ARM Cortex-M4) processor model, so this is NOT a real STM32. It is WeAct Studio's Black Pill
V3.0 - the 53 x 21 mm board with the STM32F411CEU6, USB-C, the BOOT0, NRST and KEY buttons, the red power LED, the
blue LED on PC13, the 25 MHz and 32.768 kHz crystals, the SWD header and 2 x 20 pins - that runs YOUR STM32 sketch in
Proteus:
* You write a normal Black Pill sketch with the STM32 core's pin names (PA0 .. PA15, PB0 .. PB15, PC13 .. PC15,
LED_BUILTIN = PC13, USER_BTN = PA0, Serial, Serial1, Wire, SPI, analogRead 0 .. 1023, analogWrite, attachInterrupt
...) and compile it in the Arduino IDE with our board package "TEP Boards for Proteus" 1.26.0 (in Arduino Code - see
INSTALLATION).
* Inside the board, Proteus's own ATmega2560 model runs the compiled sketch at 16 MHz; our model (TEPNET.DLL) wraps
it: the 32 GPIOs with their STM32 names, 3.3 V logic, analogRead on PA0 .. PA7, PB0, PB1 (0 .. 1023 for 0 .. 3.3 V),
NRST, the KEY button (PA0 LOW while pressed), the blue LED on PC13 (lit when LOW), the power LED and the built-in
serial monitor on the USB (Serial).
* The Black Pill has no radio. For Wi-Fi, put an ESP-01 / ESP-01S on Serial1 (PA9 TX / PA10 RX) and talk to it with AT
commands, as the demo does: it joins our virtual router TEP-WiFi with the Laptop and Mobile WiFi Monitors.
TEP additions: the USB-C port opens the serial monitor; the LEDs glow in the simulation. There is no panel: the board
has no Wi-Fi.
Limits (say them before you start): 16 MHz, 8 KB of RAM (the real STM32F411: 100 MHz, 128 KB), 256 KB of flash; int is
16 bits (use long / int32_t for big numbers); the STM32's own peripherals (HAL, LL, the timers, DMA and the DSP
instructions by register, the USB device, the RTC) are not there - write Arduino code, not registers. See MODEL SCOPE
AND LIMITS.
ONE DEVICE (search "BLACK PILL" or "STM32" in Pick Devices):
STM32 BLACK PILL "STM32 Black Pill" V1.0 (Microprocessor ICs > STM32 Boards), prefix U, model TEPNET.DLL. The serial
monitor (115200 baud) has Monitor, Plotter and Board tabs (the Board tab: the LEDs, NRST, KEY, every pin). Like every
TEP window it has no Windows title bar.
The same TEPNET.DLL also runs our other sketch boards, the ESP-01 / ESP-01S modules and the Laptop / Mobile WiFi
Monitors; it replaces any older TEPNET.DLL (keep only this newest one in MODELS).
TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 26 Oct 2026 with the demo project as shipped. What the Proteus run showed:
* Black-Pill-Attitude-Compass: the monitor printed "MPU9250 ready, QMC5883L ready, SH1106 ready", "Joining TEP-WiFi...
connected", "Attitude page: http://192.168.1.102/", then "Heading 50.3 (NE) pitch 1.0 roll -0.9 25.0 C level"
every 2 s; the PWR and C13 LEDs on; the OLED: the COMPASS page.
* The laptop (192.168.1.21) and the phone (192.168.1.41) opened http://192.168.1.102/ (HTTP 200).
* E on the GY-271's pop-up: "Heading 93.7 (E)", the needle and E on the OLED, the phone: Heading 93.5 (E).
* PITCH +15 twice on the MPU9250's pop-up: ">> TILT ALARM - pitch 29.9, roll -1.0", the C13 LED blinking, the phone
and the laptop: TILT ALARM; LEVEL on the phone: "Page: LEVEL page", the bubble off the centre; FLAT: ">> level
again"; ZERO: "Level zeroed (offsets 1.1, -0.8)", then "pitch -0.1 roll 0.5".
* About 244 s of simulation, with the four pop-ups, the monitor and both tools open. Once the phone's request timed
out and its retry got "ESP-01S: ERROR" for the busy link; the next request worked.
INSTALLATION (about 3 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(on some PCs: C:\ProgramData\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY). TEPBLACKPILL.LIB is the board;
the others are the demo's parts: TEPMPU9250.LIB, TEPCOMPASS.LIB, TEPOLEDSH1106.LIB, TEPESP01S.LIB, TEPLAPTOP.LIB and
TEPMOBILE.LIB.
3. Copy the DLLs from "Proteus Model Files" (TEPNET.DLL, TEPMPU9250.DLL, TEPCOMPASS.DLL, TEPOLED.DLL) to the MODELS
folder (...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS) - replace an older TEPNET.DLL (this one is the first that knows the Black
Pill).
4. Delete TEPBLACKPILL.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there.
5. The Arduino IDE (only to compile your own sketches - the demo has its HEX file): copy the folder
"Arduino Code\TEP Boards for Proteus\hardware" into your sketchbook folder (normally Documents\Arduino), so that
Documents\Arduino\hardware\tep\avr\boards.txt exists (replace an older copy); restart the IDE. The Arduino AVR Boards
platform must be installed (it comes with IDE 1.8.x; in IDE 2.x install "Arduino AVR Boards" from the Boards Manager
once). Tools > Board > TEP Boards for Proteus > STM32 Black Pill F411 (TEP Proteus). The demo also needs Adafruit
SH110X, Adafruit GFX and Adafruit BusIO (Library Manager).
6. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "BLACK PILL".
RUN THE DEMO
Keep the .hex file and the DLLs beside the project in "Proteus Simulation".
Black-Pill-Attitude-Compass.pdsprj - U1 the Black Pill (BlackPill_Attitude_Compass.hex) is an attitude and heading
display: U3 = the MPU9250 (GY-9250 board, I2C address 0x68: AD0 on GND, NCS on VCC for I2C), U4 = the GY-271 compass
(QMC5883L, 0x0D) and OLED1 = the 1.3" SH1106 OLED (0x3C), all three on one I2C bus (SDA PB7, SCL PB6); U2 = the ESP-01S
on Serial1 (its TXD to PA10, its RXD to PA9; 115200 baud, AT commands). PC1 the Laptop WiFi Monitor and MOB1 the Mobile
WiFi Monitor open http://192.168.1.102/ (the ESP-01S is U2). The MPU9250, the GY-271 and the OLED are the Advance
versions: each opens its pop-up window at Run, as the ESP-01S does.
The sketch reads the MPU9250's accelerometer five times a second (ACCEL_X / Y / Z from register 0x3B, +-2 g): pitch =
atan2(ax, sqrt(ay^2 + az^2)), roll = atan2(ay, az); the temperature comes from the same burst. The QMC5883L (set up as
the QMC5883LCompass library does: SET / RESET 0x01, control 0x1D) gives X and Y: heading = atan2(y, x), 0 .. 360
degrees, with the nearest of the eight compass points. Above 20 degrees of pitch or roll the TILT ALARM starts: the blue
C13 LED blinks (it is on while all is level), the OLED shows TILT!. The OLED has two pages - COMPASS (the heading and a
needle) and LEVEL (pitch, roll and a bubble); the KEY button (PA0) switches them, so do the page's COMPASS and LEVEL
links. ZERO makes the mount's pitch and roll of that moment the new zero.
Press Run. The ESP-01S joins TEP-WiFi and the monitor prints the page's address. On the GY-271's pop-up click E: the
heading turns to the east. On the MPU9250's pop-up click PITCH +15 twice: TILT ALARM. LEVEL on the phone shows the
bubble; FLAT on the MPU9250: level again.
The modules' supplies: in the demo the VCC of the MPU9250, the GY-271, the OLED and the ESP-01S go to Proteus' power
rail (power terminals) - their models read the supply as a digital level, which the board's 3V3 and 5V (analog sources)
do not give them; on a real board they sit on the Black Pill's 3V3 (the ESP-01S on its own 3.3 V regulator). Closed the
monitor? Click the board's USB-C port. The monitor (115200) takes STATUS, ZERO, PAGE and AT commands for the ESP-01S.
The heading is a plain compass reading: the QMC5883L's offsets (hard iron) move it by a few degrees until the module is
calibrated (the GY-271 article shows how); the two sensors are separate models, so the heading is not tilt-compensated.
THE PINS (the label on the board, what it can do in the simulation)
A0 .. A7, B0, B1 GPIO, analogRead 0 .. 1023 for 0 .. 3.3 V (STM32 ADC1 channels 0 .. 9), PWM, interrupt
A9 / A10 PA9 / PA10: Serial1 TX / RX (not the USB), GPIO
B6 / B7 PB6 / PB7: Wire SCL / SDA (I2C), GPIO
A4 .. A7 PA4 .. PA7: also SPI SS / SCK / MISO / MOSI
A8, A11, A12, A15, B2 .. B5, B8 .. B10, B12 .. B15, C13 .. C15 GPIO, PWM, interrupt; C13 is also the blue LED
A0 also the KEY button (LOW when pressed)
R NRST (LOW holds the board in reset)
3V3, 5V, GND 3.3 V (the logic), 5 V, ground
VB the RTC's battery: drawn, not modelled
Serial is the USB (the board's monitor), not PA9 / PA10. The pins are 3.3 V logic.
PROPERTIES (double-click the board > Edit Properties)
PROGRAM the sketch's HEX (Arduino IDE: Sketch > Export Compiled Binary with STM32 Black Pill F411 (TEP Proteus))
MONITOR YES = the built-in serial monitor on the USB (Serial); BAUD its speed (115200, or AUTO)
AUTOOPEN YES = the monitor window opens at Run (the demo: YES)
One Black Pill per design (its USB serial lines are hidden pins, and Proteus joins hidden pins of the same name across
parts).
TROUBLESHOOTING
* Nothing happens at Run: the HEX was not built with TEP Boards for Proteus - select STM32 Black Pill F411 (TEP Proteus)
and export the binary again.
* "MPU9250 NOT FOUND": SDA on PB7, SCL on PB6, AD0 on GND (0x68), NCS on VCC (I2C mode); give it 100 ms after power-up.
* The ESP-01S does not answer, NO POWER on its pop-up: its VCC needs a digital supply (the power terminal, as in the
demo); TXD to PA10, RXD to PA9; Serial1.begin(115200).
* "Joining TEP-WiFi... FAILED": the sketch's SSID / password differ from the ESP-01S's WIFISSID / WIFIPASS.
* The OLED stays dark: the SH1106 needs its own driver (Adafruit_SH1106G); an SSD1306 library shows random dots on it.
* An integer goes wrong above 32767: int is 16 bits on the hidden AVR - use long.
* The page shows old values: tap REFRESH (the monitors do not reload by themselves).

REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX file is supplied. Install TEP Boards for Proteus (INSTALLATION step 5) and the Adafruit libraries, open Arduino
Code\BlackPill_Attitude_Compass, select STM32 Black Pill F411 (TEP Proteus) and use Sketch > Export Compiled Binary. For
a real Black Pill install "STM32 MCU based boards" (STM32duino) in the Boards Manager, select "Generic STM32F4 series"
with the board part number "BlackPill F411CE" and upload over USB (DFU: hold BOOT0, tap NRST) - the same sketch.
MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the Black Pill's 32 GPIOs on a hidden ATmega2560 (Proteus's AVR model, 16 MHz, 3.3 V); digital I/O, analogRead
(PA0 .. PA7, PB0, PB1) 0 .. 1023 for 0 .. 3.3 V, PWM (analogWrite) and attachInterrupt on any pin through the board
model; NRST, KEY on PA0, the blue LED on PC13, the power LED; Serial (the USB, the board's monitor), Serial1 on PA9 /
PA10, Wire on PB6 / PB7 and SPI on PA4 .. PA7 (the AVR's hardware); Wi-Fi through a TEP ESP-01 / ESP-01S on Serial1.
Not modelled: the STM32F411 itself (100 MHz, 128 KB RAM, the FPU and DSP, HAL / LL, its timers, DMA, the USB device and
DFU, the RTC and VB, the second USART and I2C), BOOT0 (drawn: the sketch always runs), the SWD header. Upload over USB
is not used (Proteus loads the HEX). The simulation runs below real time.

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP
How do I download STM32 Black Pill Library for Proteus V1.0?
Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.
What is inside the archive?
STM32 Black Pill Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 186 files (3.7 MB, 8.2 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch, an Arduino library, compiled HEX firmware and source code. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 186 files.
What should I do if the download does not start?
Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.
Is this file free?
Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.
How do I check that the file arrived complete?
Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, ee94f704c7a277db10df465f16dbc8c7bd1dacedb5806c17b670af329f092a36. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "stm32-black-pill-tep-v1-0-4877f09d58ff4a51aff8a37ece28e177.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "stm32-black-pill-tep-v1-0-4877f09d58ff4a51aff8a37ece28e177.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.
Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?
No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.
Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?
Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.
Which Proteus version does the library need?
The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.
How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?
Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
