WHAT IS IT?
Proteus 8 has no SAMD21 processor model, so this is NOT a real SAMD21 chip. Our team has put a lot of effort into
building this board
ourselves: it is the Arduino MKR WAN 1310 - the teal MKR board with a SAMD21G18A, a Murata CMWX1ZZABZ LoRa module and
an antenna on a u.FL
socket - that runs YOUR Arduino sketch in Proteus:
* You write a normal sketch for the MKR pins (D0 .. D14, A0 .. A6, analogRead 0-1023, analogWrite, attachInterrupt,
tone, Wire, SPI, Serial,
Serial1) and compile it in the Arduino IDE with our board package "TEP Boards for Proteus" 1.54.0 (in Arduino Code
- see INSTALLATION).
* LoRa works by air: #include <LoRa.h>, LoRa.begin(868E6), LoRa.beginPacket(), LoRa.print(...), LoRa.endPacket(),
LoRa.parsePacket() and
LoRa.read(), as with the Arduino LoRa library on a real board. Every TEP LoRa board of a design shares one air:
the T-Deck, the T-Beam Supreme
and the Heltec V3 hear it, when the frequency, the spreading factor, the bandwidth and the sync word agree.
* The distance between the boards is the LORADIST property, and the link budget gives the RSSI and the SNR.
TEP additions: the USB port opens the serial monitor (the same window as our TEP Serial Monitor Advance). The board
has no Wi-Fi, so it has no PANEL pad.
Limits (say them before you start): this library is LoRa from board to board. MKRWAN (LoRaWAN, a join to The Things
Network) is NOT modelled, because
no LoRaWAN network server runs in the simulation. In the LoRa library, onReceive, receive() and channel activity
detection are not in this version: use
parsePacket() in loop(). Your sketch gets 8 KB of RAM in the simulation (the real one: 32 KB), about 256 KB of flash,
and int is 16 bits in the
simulation (use long for big numbers). The crypto chip, the SPI flash, the battery and the charger are NOT modelled.
See MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS.
ONE DEVICE (search "MKR WAN" in Pick Devices):
ARDUINO MKR WAN 1310 "Arduino MKR WAN 1310" V1.0 (Microprocessor ICs > Arduino LoRa Boards), prefix U, model
TEPNET.DLL. One TEP window with no
Windows title bar: the serial monitor (the USB port, 115200 baud: Monitor, Plotter and Board tabs).
The same TEPNET.DLL also runs our other sketch boards; it replaces any older TEPNET.DLL (keep only this newest one in
MODELS).
TEST STATUS
V1.0: verified in Proteus 8.5 on 31 Oct 2026 with the demo project as shipped. What the Proteus run showed:
* MKR-WAN-1310-Tank-Monitor: every report reached the T-Deck by LoRa: 60 % at the start, on the band of the handheld,
with the pump OFF.
* The water at 250 cm on the JSN-SR04T's window: ">> Pump ON at 20 %", the relay pulled in and the T-Deck's band
turned red. The water at 50 cm: ">> Pump OFF at 100 %".
* PUMP ON on the T-Deck's glass: ">> Command C,ON", the pump ran and FORCED ON came back. AUTO: the pump stopped, the
tank being full. The trackball's click: ">> Command C,NOW", a report at once.
* Nothing under the sensor (NONE): ">> No echo from the sensor", and NO ECHO on the T-Deck.
* about 30 s of simulation, no errors, with the pop-ups and both monitors open.
INSTALLATION (about 3 minutes)
1. Close Proteus. Extract the WHOLE ZIP to a normal folder (e.g. Desktop).
2. Copy everything in "Proteus Library Files" to the LIBRARY folder of Proteus, for example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY
(on some PCs: C:\ProgramData\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY). TEPMKRWAN.LIB is the board; the
others are the
demo's parts: TEPTDECK.LIB, TEPJSNSR04T.LIB and TEPRELAY.LIB.
3. Copy the DLLs from "Proteus Model Files" (TEPNET.DLL, TEPJSNSR04T.DLL, TEPRELAY.DLL) to the MODELS folder
(...\Proteus 8 Professional\MODELS) -
replace an older TEPNET.DLL (this one is the first that knows the MKR WAN 1310).
4. Delete TEPMKRWAN.IDX from the LIBRARY folder if it is there.
5. The Arduino IDE (only to compile your own sketches - the demo has its HEX files): copy the folder
"Arduino Code\TEP Boards for Proteus\hardware" into your sketchbook folder (normally Documents\Arduino), so that
Documents\Arduino\hardware\tep\avr\boards.txt exists (replace an older copy); restart the IDE. The Arduino AVR Boards
platform must be installed (it comes with IDE 1.8.x; in IDE 2.x install "Arduino AVR Boards" from the Boards
Manager once).
Tools > Board > TEP Boards for Proteus > Arduino MKR WAN 1310 (TEP Proteus). The LoRa library is in the board
package. For the T-Deck's sketch
install from the Library Manager: RadioLib, Adafruit ST7735 and ST7789, Adafruit GFX and Adafruit BusIO.
6. Start Proteus. In Pick Devices (P) search "MKR WAN".
RUN THE DEMO
Keep the .hex files and the DLLs beside the project in "Proteus Simulation".
MKR-WAN-1310-Tank-Monitor.pdsprj - U1 the MKR WAN 1310 (MKRWAN_Tank_Node.hex) stands at a water tank: U3 = a JSN-SR04T
(Advance) in the lid, on D2 and D3,
RLY1 = the pump's relay (Advance) on D5. U2 = a LilyGO T-Deck (TDeck_Tank_Reader.hex) is the handheld, 2 km away by
the LORADIST property, with no wires.
Press Run. Every 5 s a report reaches the T-Deck: the level, the distance, the pump. On the JSN-SR04T's window set the
water: 200 cm, then +10 five times gives 250 cm
and 20 %: the band turns red and the relay starts the pump. 50 cm is a full tank, and the pump stops. Tap PUMP ON on
the T-Deck's glass, then AUTO. Click the trackball
for a report now. NONE on the sensor's window gives NO ECHO. Closed a window? The USB port opens a monitor.
THE PINS (the label on the part, what it can do in the simulation)
0 .. 7 D0 .. D7: GPIO, PWM, interrupt
8, 9, 10 SPI MOSI, SCK, MISO, or GPIO
11, 12 Wire SDA, SCL, or GPIO
13, 14 Serial1 RX, TX, or GPIO
A0 .. A6 analogRead 0 .. 1023 for 0 .. 3.3 V, or GPIO (the core's numbers 15 .. 21)
VCC, 5V, GND 3.3 V (the logic), 5 V, ground; RESET the board's reset
VIN, AREF drawn, not modelled
The L LED is D6 (LED_BUILTIN). Serial is the USB: the board's built-in monitor.
PROPERTIES (double-click the part > Edit Properties)
PROGRAM the sketch's HEX (Arduino IDE: Sketch > Export Compiled Binary with Arduino MKR WAN 1310 (TEP Proteus))
LORADIST the LoRa distance to the other boards (10 m ... 20 km; the demo: 2 km)
MONITOR YES = the built-in serial monitor on Serial; BAUD its speed (115200, or AUTO)
AUTOOPEN YES = the monitor window opens at Run (the demo: YES)
TROUBLESHOOTING
* LoRa.begin() returns 0: the board in Tools > Board must be Arduino MKR WAN 1310 (TEP Proteus).
* No packets arrive: both boards need the same frequency, bandwidth, spreading factor and sync word (the defaults: 7,
125 kHz, 0x12).
* parsePacket() is always 0: call it in loop(), and do not block for long; it also starts the receiver after a send.
* The distance reads 613 cm: nothing in front of the JSN-SR04T - this module holds ECHO HIGH for 36 ms.
* The relay does not switch: its IN is active LOW.
* An integer goes wrong above 32767: int is 16 bits in the simulation - use long.

* Our LoRa library has the API of Sandeep Mistry's Arduino LoRa library; its code is ours.
* The T-Deck's sketch uses RadioLib (MIT), Adafruit ST7735 and ST7789, Adafruit GFX and Adafruit BusIO: install them
with the Library Manager to rebuild.
* Proteus is a product of Labcenter Electronics and is not included. Arduino and MKR are names of Arduino, Murata of
Murata Manufacturing, LilyGO of LilyGO and LoRa of Semtech.
This library is not made or endorsed by them or by Labcenter.
REBUILDING THE FIRMWARE (OPTIONAL)
The HEX files are supplied. Install TEP Boards for Proteus (INSTALLATION step 5), open Arduino Code\MKRWAN_Tank_Node
with Arduino MKR WAN 1310 (TEP Proteus) and
Arduino Code\TDeck_Tank_Reader with LilyGO T-Deck (TEP Proteus), and use Sketch > Export Compiled Binary. For a real
board select "Arduino MKR WAN 1310" in the
"Arduino SAMD Boards" package and install the Arduino LoRa library. Its pins are 3.3 V only: a real JSN-SR04T's 5 V
ECHO needs a voltage divider.
MODEL SCOPE AND LIMITS
Modelled: the MKR's pins; digital I/O, analogRead 0 .. 1023, PWM (analogWrite), tone and attachInterrupt through the
board model; Serial (the board's monitor), Serial1,
Wire and SPI; LoRa between the TEP LoRa boards of a design, with its time on air and the link budget.
Not modelled: the SAMD21 itself, the module's own processor, LoRaWAN and the MKRWAN library, the ATECC508 crypto chip,
the W25Q16 flash, the charger and the battery. The simulation
runs below real time.

FAQs9 questionsContact TEP
How do I download Arduino MKR WAN 1310 Library for Proteus V1.0?
Wait for the 30-second guest countdown on this page, then press the download button; the file comes straight from our storage. Members who are logged in skip the wait. If the browser opens the file instead of saving it, use its Save as option. The download link is made for you when the countdown ends and works for 15 minutes; a saved or shared link stops working, so share this page instead.
What is inside the archive?
Arduino MKR WAN 1310 Library for Proteus V1.0 comes as a ZIP archive of 250 files (3.8 MB, 8.8 MB unpacked) holding Proteus library files, simulation model DLLs, a Proteus simulation, an Arduino sketch, an Arduino library, compiled HEX firmware and source code. Open the File Structure tab for the full list of 250 files.
What should I do if the download does not start?
Check the browser's download list first; an ad blocker or a company firewall can also hold it back, so try another browser or network. If the file arrives incomplete, download it again. For an installation problem, read the Install tab or tell us in the comments with your software version and the exact error message.
Is this file free?
Yes. Every file in the TEP Download Center is free for learning, personal and student projects. If you share it, link back to this page or the tutorial so others find the latest version.
How do I check that the file arrived complete?
Compare its SHA-256 with the one on this page, 91a581ce63536f9a663f58a839ccd9d8bba8629dffa37f79607fe6ad589f7395. In PowerShell run Get-FileHash "arduino-mkr-wan-1310-tep-v1-0-b6d5616d389e43dc8b2a2e864b8a2389.zip"; on macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 "arduino-mkr-wan-1310-tep-v1-0-b6d5616d389e43dc8b2a2e864b8a2389.zip". The same value means the file is exactly the one in our storage; a different one means the download broke off, so download it again.
Do I need WinRAR to open the ZIP file?
No. Windows, macOS and Linux open ZIP archives on their own (Extract All, or double-click). WinRAR and 7-Zip work too. Extract the whole archive before using the files.
Where do I put the LIB and IDX files?
Both files go into the LIBRARY folder of your Proteus installation (Proteus 8: C:\Program Files (x86)\Labcenter Electronics\Proteus 8 Professional\LIBRARY; Proteus 7 has the same folder under its own name). Restart Proteus afterwards and search for the component with P.
Which Proteus version does the library need?
The tutorial names the Proteus version the library was made and tested with. Most TEP libraries work in Proteus 7 and Proteus 8; if the component does not appear after a restart, check that both the LIB and the IDX file were copied and that Proteus was fully closed while copying.
How do I get the HEX file into the simulation?
Compile the sketch in the Arduino IDE (Sketch → Export Compiled Binary gives you the HEX next to the sketch), then in Proteus double-click the board, set Program File to that HEX and run.
Members skip the wait. Log in or join TEP.
